Stena Line is running its first ever recruitment campaign because of staff shortages.The ferry company is looking for 60 employees to work on its Irish Sea routes mainly in the hospitality area.Traditionally jobs on board ferries were highly sought after but now the biggest Irish Sea operator is trying to entice workers with a campaign entitled &#39;A Life Less Ordinary&#39;.The Swedish company points out that its employees spend 50% of their lives off work and live on board for either one or two weeks at a time.Accommodation and meals are free while on board.Stephen Bryden the company&#39;s head of Onboard Sales and Services said January is traditionally the time of the year when people tend to evaluate their career paths.&quot;Whilst we appreciate that a life at sea isn&#39;t feasible for everyone, the challenges of the last few years have shone a light on a variety of jobs and careers which have struck a chord with a lot of people.&quot;He said the company is looking for onboard assistants and chefs.Stena provides a total of 238 weekly sailings between Ireland and Britain including passenger and freight services from Dublin to Holyhead, Rosslare to Fishguard and Belfast to Cairnryan and Liverpool.Dr Sarah Kieran lecture in Work and Employment Studies in the University of Limerick says problems in the hospitality industry result from the decimation brought by the pandemic.She said jobs in that sector might suffer from the perception of lack of security but staff shortages are not confined to that sector.Surveys have found that 41% of employees see their future outside their current company she pointed out and said that companies will have to look at the packages they are offering if they want to attract or retain staff. Host or Family required to Live Rent Free & Welcome Guests  to Sicily

<h2>The Government has today approved future plans for the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) and has announced changes to the economic supports for businesses most impacted by recent public health restrictions</h2>(21/1/22)The new arrangements agreed for the PUP scheme are as follows:<ul><li>PUP will close for new applications on 22 January 2022 in line with the Government decision to lift restrictions.</li><li>With effect from 8 March 2022, anyone still in receipt of the PUP will move to a weekly rate of €208. This represents a four week extension on what was previously announced.</li><li>PUP recipients will start transitioning to standard jobseeker terms, and if eligible, will move onto a jobseeker payment effective from 5 April 2022.</li></ul>Speaking today, Minister Humphreys said:<blockquote>“The Pandemic Unemployment Payment has been an absolutely vital support for workers and their families.</blockquote><blockquote>“What was originally intended to be just a six week short-term payment will now last for over two years with over €9 Billion in payments issued to workers.</blockquote><blockquote>“In line with the widespread lifting of restrictions from tomorrow, the Government has today approved plans for the winding down of the PUP over the coming months.</blockquote><blockquote>“The decision to lift restrictions represents a hugely positive step which will see tens of thousands of people return to work over the coming weeks as the country begins to return to normal.”</blockquote><blockquote></blockquote><h2>Changes to Business Supports</h2>Also in other news for businesses, the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe has today (Friday) announced changes to a number of the COVID support schemes available to businesses, in particular for those businesses that were most severely impacted by the public health regulations introduced last December.An extension to the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) to support those businesses and a number of clarifications in relation to the Covid Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS) and Tax Debt Warehousing Scheme were agreed by Government at the Cabinet meeting today.The legislative aspects associated with these changes will be addressed by primary legislation to be introduced in the coming weeks. In the meantime Revenue will update its guidance on each of the schemes shortly.<h2>EWSS</h2>As part of Budget 2022, the government set out the future direction of EWSS including its graduated exit strategy. These arrangements were subsequently enhanced in response to the public health situation, namely the extension of the enhanced rates of subsidy for a further two months (across December 2021 and January 2022) and the reopening of the scheme for certain businesses as announced on 9 and 21 December 2021 respectively.The government agreed today that businesses availing of EWSS that were directly impacted by the public health Regulations introduced last December, will receive additional support under the scheme for a further month to assist these businesses as they fully reopen and emerge from the restrictions.Such businesses will continue to receive the enhanced rates of subsidy for the month of February and the graduated step-down in subsidy rates, as previously announced, will be delayed by one month with such firms continuing to receive support under the scheme until 31 May 2022.From 1 February 2022, most businesses, apart from those that were directly impacted by the public health restrictions of last December, will move to the reduced rate of support of €203 per employee, followed by the flat rate subsidy of €100 per employee for the final two months the scheme of March and April 2022.It should be noted that the full rate of Employers’ PRSI will be reinstated with effect from 1 March 2022 for all businesses, as announced in Budget 2022 and legislated for in the Social Welfare Act 2021.<h2>Tax Debt Warehousing Scheme</h2>In relation to the Tax Debt Warehousing Scheme, and the decision by Government last month, to extend the period where tax liabilities arising can be warehoused to the end of Q1 2022, for all taxpayers eligible for COVID-19 support schemes, it has now been agreed that this date will be extended to 30 April 2022 to facilitate the two monthly VAT return for March/April.<h2>CRSS</h2>A number of clarifications were noted in relation to the CRSS as follows:as provided for under the scheme, an extra week, will be paid to businesses the week after the restrictions are lifted as an additional support to businesses as they reopen fullyfor newer businesses established during the period 13 October 2020 to 26 July 2021, the turnover from the date of commencement up to 1 August 2021 will be used for the purpose of calculating average weekly turnovercertain charities and sporting bodies that operate a hospitality/indoor entertainment business activity from their business premises, who meet the revised qualifying criteria of the scheme, are eligible to apply for the CRSS for the most recent period of restrictions (20 December 2021 to January 2022)The Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe TD said:“Today is an important day for our society and economy as we seek to ease the public health restrictions and reopen all sectors of our economy. The EWSS has been extremely successful in maintaining employment across the whole of our economy during this pandemic.&quot;It is now time to adjust our focus towards an exit from the scheme in a structured and orderly way. This is important in everyone’s interests - businesses, employees, the wider body of taxpayers – as the scheme cannot continue indefinitely. As such, most businesses will move to the reduced rates of EWSS subsidy from the 1st February 2022 onwards and continue on the exit path as previously announced until the scheme closes on 30 April 2022.&quot;However, I intend to provide additional support to those businesses that were directly impacted by the most recent public health regulations. Affected businesses will continue to receive the enhanced rates of support for a further month and the exit path from the scheme for such businesses will be delayed by a month.&quot;CRSS has been an important and successful support payable at times when businesses most needed additional help with their fixed costs, and has provided some €717 million in direct payments in respect of over 25,000 business premises since its introduction and over €13.4 million in payments to businesses directly impacted by the latest public health restrictions in place since 20 December.&quot;The facility to avail of the Tax Debt Warehousing Scheme has also offered valuable and practical liquidity support to businesses in difficult trading periods during the pandemic. The objective of this scheme is to allow firms some help to recover, thereby helping to guarantee their long-term economic viability and survival. This further extension will allow businesses who have been most impacted some additional time to recover before their tax liabilities have to be paid. Welcomed News as Covid Restrictions Lifted

An Garda Síochána have confirmed they will open their 2022 recruitment process &#39;in the coming weeks&#39; and they are set to recruit 800 new officers and 400 civilian support staff.The Government confirmed the plan before Christmas and An Garda Síochána posted recently to confirm that their application process will open shortly.They have made changes to the entry criteria recently to become a more diverse organisation with changes to their uniform policy and have removed the second language requirement. Previously members had to be proficient in two languages, one of which must be English or Irish. However proficiency will only be required in one language now, which can be English or Irish going forward. The Government says the changes will encourage a more diverse police force which will be much more representative of our diverse and minority communities. The establishment of the Garda National Diversity Forum has helped to drive the changes. Commissioner Drew Harris said recently that the plan is to bolster numbers in front-line policing and to become a more diverse force.&quot;There will be a significant focus in our recruitment campaign in reaching out to groups and individuals from these communities to encourage them to join An Garda Síochána. Minister McEntee encourages people to think about career in An Garda Síochána ahead of new recruitment campaignMinister asks people in new Irish and minority communities to apply<li>new regulations remove requirement for applicants to be proficient in two languages</li><li>new Irish language strategy to be launched by An Garda Síochána</li><li>vital that An Garda Síochána represents the Ireland of today</li>The Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee TD, has today urged people, especially those in minority and new Irish communities, to consider a career in An Garda Síochána ahead of a new recruitment campaign opening early in the New Year.In line with the government’s commitment to strengthen and support An Garda Síochána as it protects and serves our communities, a new Garda Trainee Recruitment campaign is due to commence early in 2022.The last recruitment competition was held in early 2019. Successful applicants are placed on a panel from which they are drawn by An Garda Síochána for training when required by the Garda Commissioner.The government has next year committed to the recruitment of 800 extra Gardaí and 400 Garda staff and is dedicated to increasing diversity within An Garda Síochána.Minister McEntee today urged people, particularly those from new Irish and minority communities, to think over the Christmas break about applying to become a member of An Garda Síochána.Minister McEntee said:<blockquote>&quot;As Minister for Justice, protecting communities and supporting victims is my absolute priority, and the government’s support for An Garda Síochána reflects that commitment.&quot;The greatest strength of An Garda Síochána is its bond with the communities it serves. Our own national life has been greatly enriched by so many new communities of different origin in recent decades.&quot;But significant work is still required across the public sector - not least the justice sector – to make sure our new and minority communities are better represented, as well as to improve gender equality.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;I want everyone in our society, such as our African-Irish and Traveller communities, to see members of their own communities serving in An Garda Síochána.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;I know Commissioner Harris and all members of An Garda Síochána are dedicated to increasing diversity within the organisation. I have discussed this with the Commissioner and I am very pleased that a vigorous campaign will be launched by An Garda Síochána to encourage as many people as possible to apply.&quot;Our new recruitment campaign provides a great opportunity to increase diversity within the service and I urge people from these communities to seriously think over Christmas about applying in the New Year.&quot;<a href="https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/73bfa-minister-mcentee-encourages-people-to-think-about-career-in-an-garda-siochana-ahead-of-new-recruitment-campaign/"></a></blockquote>The Commission on the future of Policing in Ireland noted that diversity is a vital asset to any organisation that seeks to be innovative and adaptable.The Minister made her comments after she received Cabinet approval this week for new regulations which will allow An Garda Síochána hold the new recruitment competition.These new Regulations, amending the Garda Síochána (Admissions and Appointments) Regulations 2013, will allow for a broader appeal for service with An Garda Síochána to reflect the increasing diversity of Irish Society.In addition to technical amendments required to reflect changes in legislation from the Refugee Act 1996 to the International Protections Act 2015, the requirement for applicants to be proficient in two languages, one of which must be English or Irish, is also being changed.As currently worded, the requirement for proficiency in two languages is acting as a barrier to more diverse recruitment.Under the amended regulations, proficiency will only be required in one language – which can be English or Irish.This will remove any potential disadvantage for people not born in Ireland who do not have any experience with the Irish language.An Garda Síochána remains committed to the Irish language and studies in the Irish language will remain part of the Policing BA. A new Irish Language Strategy has been developed by An Garda Síochána and will be launched early in 2022. The Strategy aims to strengthen Irish language services within An Garda Síochána and ensure compliance with statutory language obligations.The Minister continued:<blockquote>&quot;I want these new regulations to send out a message and to encourage interest from all communities across Ireland in a career with An Garda Síochána. Of course, An Garda Síochána remains committed to the Irish language and I look forward to its new strategy.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;I would also take this opportunity to encourage more women to apply for a career in An Garda Síochána.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;In recent years we have made great strides to address the gender imbalance in An Garda Síochána, especially at the most senior levels, but I want to see more women entering the service, as I know they are fully capable and can make such a difference to their local community.&quot;An Garda Síochána are working to produce a combined internal and external Equality, Diversity and Integration Strategy in early 2022.Minister McEntee concluded:&quot;I welcome the many diversity initiatives being actively pursued by An Garda Síochána.
