It works like this; Situation: Describe the situation that you were in or the task that you needed to accomplish.Task: What goal were you working toward?Action: Describe the actions you took to address the situation with an appropriate amount of detail and keep the focus on YOU. What specific steps did you take and what was your particular contribution? Be careful that you don’t describe what the team or group did when talking about a project, but what you actually did. So, a good example here could be a project that you worked on with a team. You can tell them how the project came about, the part you played and the outcome. This is an opportunity to show that you have good technical skills also. You could talk about how technological developments are changing the way we work, and how you have adapted in the past and how you will adapt going forward. Of course, you could talk about moving up the ladder, but just be careful about giving the impression that you want to move roles too soon. At the interview they want to know that you will be happy doing the role that’s on offer for now, but they will be impressed that you want to keep learning.SURPRISE QUESTIONSThere is a really good chance that a question will come up that you are not prepared for. Don’t panic, give yourself time to think about what they are asking you and if you don’t understand a question be sure to ask them what they mean. They would rather that you ask for clarification than for you to give a completely different answer to what they have asked.ANSWERING QUESTIONS WITH EXAMPLESWrite down examples of tasks and projects that you completed or participated in that demonstrate real examples to back up the work experience that you have listed and that match the job description. For example, if the job requires you to handle customer calls that may entail dealing with complaints. Have an example of a time when you dealt with a difficult customer situation and explain what you did to reach a successful resolution.Elaborate on answers to show the skills that you used in previous roles. I was promoted to the customer service desk, as my Manager identified that I was able to efficiently and successfully handle customer complaints. Practice, practice, practice will give you the confidence you need to succeed.Make sure you have some good phrases and keywords at the forefront of your mind to describe your experience and skills. One job interview is nerve-racking enough and while it’s great news to be called for a second one, the nerves can kick back in.But congratulations are in order! You’ve been asked back for a second interview becuase you&#39;ve obviously made a great first impression. The company is seriously considering you for the job and you are now one step closer to securing it. However, you may feel unsure as to how this interview will differ from the first one, and how best to prepare.Who will you meet in your second interview?During your first interview, you will probably have met with someone from HR, as well as your would-be boss. At the second interview stage, you will most likely be meeting someone more senior within the business, the person who will ultimately have the final say on the hiring decision.Don&#39;t be afraid to ask who will be doing the interview. This will allow you to research this person online beforehand, be it on LinkedIn or via the company website. In doing this, you may discover that you have shared interests or career backgrounds. What will the format of the interview be?Don’t assume the format of your second interview will be the same as the first. You may be prepared for a one-on-one interview, only to be faced with a panel of stakeholders on the day. If you can ask the recruiter for more information.If you find out that you will be interviewed by a panel, then prepare accordingly. If the prospect of selling yourself to a group of stakeholders fills you with dread, then brush up on some tips for communicating confidence and presenting to a number of people. Practise in front of a group of friends or family beforehand, so the real thing doesn’t feel as daunting.On the day of the interview, remember to interact with everyone in the room and not just those who are asking you the most questions. Try and remember everyone’s name and address them as such. Impressing a panel of interviewers can seem daunting, but if you can tackle this skill now it will serve you well as you progress further in your career, not to mention heighten your chances of securing the job.What is the interviewer trying to assess?The main differences between your first and second interviews lie in the objectives of the interviewer. Think objectively about what the interviewer is trying to find out here, and how you can provide them with what they are looking for. Your level of interest in the role and organisationOne thing the interviewer may be looking to determine is whether you are still as interested in this opportunity, having completed the first interview and learned a bit more about the role. Be ready to say what you enjoyed learning about the organisation upon meeting with them in your first meeting with them. Also, use this opportunity to voice any questions that have cropped up in your mind since you last met with the company.Do you have the skills required?During this second interview, the hiring manager may look for more detailed evidence of the competencies you have for the role, whether it’s through assessments or competency-based questions such as, ‘Describe a time when you showcased your x skills’ or, ‘How would you approach x situation?’Prepare for competency-based interview questions just to be sure by revisiting the core requirements of the role, plus some examples of times you have showcased these skills. Now think about how you plan to implement these skills if successful in this role. You should also double-check with your recruiter to see if you are required to bring physical examples of your work or prepare any presentations.Are you the right fit?A large part of the second interview is to also most likely to establish whether you’re a good fit for the company in terms of culture and personality. Therefore, you may be given a tour of the office at this stage to be introduced to potential colleagues. You could also be asked questions surrounding your hobbies and interests, how your friends would describe you, and what type of culture you prefer to work in.As you answer these questions, it is important that you remain authentic and honest. After all, the second interview is your chance to critically assess how good a fit this organisation is for you, too.With this in mind, perhaps prepare some of your own questions for the end of the interview, which could help provide insight into what life at this organisation is like and how much you would enjoy working there. These questions may include, ‘How would you describe the team?’ or, ‘What’s your favourite aspect of working at this organisation?’Addressing and resolving any reservations or doubtsThe interviewer may be looking to use the second interview to overcome some of their reservations from the first interview. So, how can you determine what these reservations may be?Try and recall any recurring questions that they asked multiple times, but phrased in different ways. This may be reflective of a concern that they were trying to clear up. Was there anything that you struggled to answer? You can also ask the recruiter for feedback surrounding this.What about any skills gaps or areas of the job that you aren’t fully equipped to do? Consider whether you could teach yourself this skill in advance, or commit to learning it in the near future, even if it’s in your own time. You should also outline that you are a fast learner and keen to develop yourself, and give examples of times when you have quickly up skilled yourself in the past.Once you have an inkling of what the interviewer’s doubts may be, you can prepare to counter them in the second interview.Your availability and salaryLastly, the second interview can often be the stage during which the interviewer is looking to know your notice period and salary expectations. If you&#39;re successful make sure to get what&#39;s agreed in writing and have a clear plan and deadlines in place to help all parties achieve the goals.If this approach fails, then it&#39;s time to move forward with your job search.2. Find your competitive advantageMake a list of the things that you love to do and a list of things that you’re great at, not just good at. Things that give you a competitive edge. Reviewing both lists may provide you with a good starting point when considering a career or life change. Make sure to review what you absolutely dislike about your current and previous jobs and ensure that you steer clear of making the same mistakes again - define your non-negotiables.3. How to find out what you love‘Find a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life again’, well it&#39;s easier said than done and it’s going to be hard to find a job that ticks all boxes, but at least try and find something that you will enjoy doing and if possible then build your career around it. You will only be successful in finding the right job if you are very aware of what exactly you want and you research correctly to ensure you apply for the right position. You are leaving clues behind every day about what you love – so go find them!• Review your YouTube history and search history on Google• Review your internet browser bookmarks• Review your bank statements and see where your money is going every month• Speak to your friends, parents, family members or partner and ask them what you are always talking about?Go back to your childhoodIt’s time to take a stroll down memory lane. What did you love doing as a child before life got in the way? Make a list of all the activities and hobbies you can remember doing when you were younger. Think of happy times in your childhood too.•	When you were full of joy as a child, what was the activity that you were talented at?4. Research your optionsBe mindful of the fact that we can become blinkered by our current surroundings and remember that there are lots of different types of organisations and careers out there. You may only have a view of the industry that you are currently in. The culture in other industries could be completely different from your current employers, so be sure to do plenty of research to identify what’s attractive to you.Check out other businesses within your current industry and also not for profit organisations. Research has found that people who work for charities, social enterprises or other not-for-profit organisations increased their personal happiness levels sharply. People feel happier when they believe that their work is serving a greater purpose.Look around at the people who you think have perfect jobs. If you could swap places with someone, who would that be and why? What do they do? How happy are they really? Could you do what they’re doing? What do you have to do to get there? Maybe invite them out for a coffee, it’s best to be honest from the get go – tell them why you’d like to meet in advance. Most people will be happy to oblige.5. Beating self-doubtThere’s no doubt that making big changes can be daunting and challenging and contemplating such changes will immediately kick off self-doubt in the best of us. Moving after 2 years is acceptable, but do not stay in a job if you are unhappy or not being treated fairly, for your sanity it&#39;s best to take the chance and move.On average you will receive a 15 - 20% pay increase by moving to a new company, compared with a 3 - 5% annual pay increase in your current job. Moving companies also expands your Network and Skillset, as you are exposed to many different environments and projects.You do not always have to list all positions individually on your CV either. You can consolidate multiple &#39;projects&#39;/Jobs into one section. For example, put the date range in and say something like;Various Short Term Contracts as Marketing Manager where I achieved ....... <h2>Job hunting is not easy</h2>Sometimes it can be difficult to recover from an unsuccessful interview, particularly when you felt that it went really well. No matter how talented you are, remember it’s all a bit of a lottery. If you&#39;re feeling confused about what went wrong consider asking for feedback, you have nothing to lose. The key thing to do after a rejection is to think about what happened, and how you can learn from it. <h2>Asking for detailed feedback</h2>Asking for and listening to feedback is the most valuable thing you can do when faced with a job rejection. Self-analysis alone won’t paint the whole picture of why you weren’t the right person for the role.So, start by gathering all the feedback you can from the recruiter. They may or may not give it to you, but it&#39;s no harm to ask.<h2>Review and reflect</h2>Once you’ve had a chance to come to terms with the employer’s decision, it can be tempting to brush the experience aside and never think of it again. But that would be to pass up on a significant learning opportunity.So, thinking about the feedback you received, go back through everything that happened, from the way you prepared and researched through to your interactions in the interview and any follow-up.If the process took place in stages, rank your performance for each part and determine where there is room for improvement. <h2>What went well, what could you have done differently?</h2>Could you have answered some of the questions differently? Could you have worked harder to build rapport with your interviewer(s)? There is always room to improve.<h2>Identify learnings and build a personal development plan</h2>Think about feedback from past rejections, and from appraisals. Are there any recurring themes? What can you do to fix the gaps in your performance? Depending on the issue, there may be some training or informal coaching you can undertake to help you develop. Or it may simply be a case of working harder on some of your answers, and finding someone to practise them with.<h2>Be philosophical</h2>Feedback can also help you to recognise that sometimes rejection is simply out of your hands – and can even ultimately be in your interest. Some things can’t be changed overnight – if the interviewer prefers someone with extensive client management experience (which you don’t have) or they want someone who speaks the local language (and you don’t, or not as well), then it pays to be philosophical. The key with your plan is to focus on the things you can realistically change.Chemistry plays a vital part in any successful working arrangement. So even if you’d felt your interview went perfectly, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the role within that specific company was perfect for you.<h2>Refine your search</h2>Sometimes the interview and/or feedback process can make you realise that, although it’s disappointing to be rejected, the role didn’t, on reflection, feel like quite the right fit for you either.Look back over the job specification and ask yourself if you could truly see yourself in that role on a day-to-day basis. If there were aspects of the role that didn’t excite you, the interviewer may have been able to see this too.Use your experience to help you refine future job searches. Are you perhaps looking at keywords that don’t quite match your ambitions and aspirations? Did the role that went with the job title not quite match your expectations? Did the interview make you realise that this is not quite the right sort of job for you? Bounce Back after an Unsuccessful Interview

Sept 1 (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc <a href="https://www.reuters.com/companies/AMZN.O">(AMZN.O)</a> is planning to hire 55,000 people for corporate and technology roles globally in the coming months, Chief Executive Andy Jassy told Reuters.That’s equal to more than a third of Google’s <a href="https://www.reuters.com/companies/GOOGL.O">(GOOGL.O)</a> headcount as of June 30, and close to all of Facebook’s <a href="https://www.reuters.com/companies/FB.O">(FB.O)</a>.Jassy, in his first press interview since he ascended to Amazon’s top post in July, said the company needed more firepower to keep up with demand in retail, the cloud and advertising, among other businesses. Minister Donohoe announces further economic supports for businesses as they re-openFrom Department of FinancePublished on 1 June 2021Following the Government meeting today (Tuesday), the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, T.D., has announced the following set of measures to provide support to businesses as they re-open and resume normal trading:• The extension of the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme to 31 December 2021;• The extension and enhancement of the Covid Restrictions Support Scheme to provide additional support to businesses upon re-opening and to give certainty to businesses still directly affected by public health restrictions;• A new additional business support scheme (Business Resumption Support Scheme or BRSS) for businesses with reduced turnover as a result of public health restrictions to be implemented in September 2021;• The extension of the tax debt warehousing scheme to allow the period where liabilities arising can be “warehoused” to be extended to the end of 2021 for all eligible taxpayers, with an interest-free period during 2022, and to include overpayments of EWSS in the scheme;• The Government agreed to the drafting of legislation to provide for these measures.These measures will provide certainty to businesses as public health restrictions are lifted and allow them to plan for the future as they re-open and resume normal trading.Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme:The EWSS continues to represent a substantial and key part of the Government response to the Covid-19 pandemic, supporting businesses, encouraging employment, and helping to maintain the link between employers and employees.As of the week ending 27 May, a total of €3.835 billion has been spent under the scheme of which €3.293 billion relates to direct subsidies and €0.542 billion relates to Employers’ PRSI foregone.For Q3, the Government has decided to broadly maintain the status quo for EWSS, including the enhanced rates of support and the reduced rate of Employers’ PRSI with a modification to widen eligibility.For Q4, the Government has approved the extension of the EWSS, however, it is considered too early yet to prescribe the precise operational parameters of the scheme that should apply for that quarter, and decisions in that regard would be taken closer to the time around the end of August / early September.Covid Restrictions Support Scheme:The Covid Restriction Support Scheme (CRSS) has been an extremely successful intervention by the Government to provide support to businesses whose customers are prevented from accessing their premises because of Public Health restrictions.The CRSS in its current form will be continued to the end of 2021 for the reducing number of businesses that are still directly affected by public health restrictions that may remain in place. The qualification criteria and payment rates will remain unchanged.The Government will also provide for an enhanced restart week payment – a single payment of three double weeks to businesses upon re-opening (subject to a maximum of €30,000). This will provide additional support to the businesses in restocking and making the necessary preparations to welcome their customers back in a safe manner.This enhanced restart payment is intended to incentivise them to exit the scheme and return to trading as early as possible.Business Resumption Support Scheme:As the economy re-opens, a further scheme is being introduced for vulnerable but viable businesses, particularly in sectors that were significantly impacted throughout the pandemic, even during periods when restrictions were eased.Businesses whose turnover is reduced by 75% in the reference period (1 September 2020 to 31 August 2021) compared with 2019 will be eligible. The scheme will not be restricted by location, rate-paying, or physical premises. It is expected that there will be a limited number of such businesses and recognised that it is important that such businesses are supported.Businesses who previously availed of other schemes such as SBASC and the Tourism Business Continuity Scheme for example as well as CRSS will be eligible to apply provided they meet the qualifying criteria.The BRSS will be administered by Revenue and will operate in a similar way to CRSS.Tax Warehousing:The tax debt warehousing scheme has provided approximately €2.3 billion of liquidity to Irish businesses at a time that they need it most. The scheme is now being extended to the end of this year, with no interest during 2022 and interest at a reduced rate of 3% thereafter.Speaking on the overall package of measures, the Minister said“The Government and I have committed on multiple occasions that there will be no “cliff-edge” to supports for business. DutiesYou can split the duties as you wish. You should have initiative and strong self-management skill. The family do not wish to micro-manage and want to have a positive can-do attitude, self-confident, discreet, professional with excellent manners. You should be very well presented. A keen eye for minute detail and a real love for service and care of your professional duties. You should be confident with all aspects of housekeeping and be able to clean and care for the home to a high standard, with great attention to detail. You will be responsible for the daily and deep cleaning of the household and ensure it is always tidy and presentable. Making beds, cleaning bathrooms and all areas of the house. You will also be responsible for laundry, ironing, and ensuring that the home is generally well presented and cared for. Attention to detail is extremely important, and you should enjoy working to high standards as requested by the principals. You should be skilled in household management and maintenance, helping with upkeep of the buildings and working with the other contractors. You should be organized and if you enjoy cooking this is a bonus. You certainly don’t need to “know” someone and not all roles require a college degree. So what are the Myths and how do you get a job with a Civil Service Role?<h2>Myth Busters about getting a Job with the Civil Service</h2> Myth 1: Do you need to be an Irish citizen to be a Civil Servant?False: The vast majority of roles in the Civil and Public Service are open to European Economic Area (EEA) citizens. There are some roles where you have to be an Irish Citizen such as roles in the Diplomatic Stream of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. For information in relation to a specific campaign you will need to refer to the information booklet for that campaign.Myth 2: Do you need to know someone in order to get into the Civil Service? False: Recruitment campaigns are open, objective and fair and we pride ourselves in ensuring that everyone is treated to the same professional, high standards at all stages of the process. All public sector jobs have to be advertised in the public domain. This includes newspapers as well as government websites such as the Public Appointments Service and the the Northern Ireland Civil Service recruitment website.For those who are interested in traineeships, the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) organises competitions for roles within EU institutions. These include jobs as administrators, economists, conference interpreters, translators and lawyers with EU institutions. For example, you can apply for a traineeship at the European Commission. These traineeships are offered twice a year and competition is fierce. What are the different areas of work?Each area in the public and civil service concentrates on a specific area of policy or service, such as education, transport, pensions or fraud investigation, and employs people for their specialist knowledge.In the civil service, you may work in a Government Department. People will tend to pursue different routes, depending on their own strengths and interests.
