In the past, you had no legal right to be paid while you were on sick leave from work.From 1 January 2023, you have a right to 3 days’ sick pay a year. This is called statutory sick pay (that means the legal minimum). Sick pay is paid by your employer at 70% of your normal pay up to a maximum of €110 a day.You must be an employee and be working at least 13 weeks with your employer before you can get statutory sick pay.Your employer can have a more generous sick pay scheme, but they can&#39;t give you less than the statutory amount. You must have worked at least 40 hours over the previous 5 weeks.You are not entitled to pay or time off for the public holiday if you are on sick leave immediately before the public holiday, and either of the following apply:-You have been off work for more than 26 weeks due to an ordinary illness or an acciden-You have been off work for more than 52 weeks due to an occupational accident What happens to my annual leave when I am off sick?If you are sick during your <a href="https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/employment_rights_and_conditions/leave_and_holidays/annual_leave_public_holidays.html">annual leave</a> and get a medical certificate for the days you are sick, these days will not be counted as annual leave days. An employer cannot insist that you take annual leave on days you are off sick, once you have a medical certificate.You can build up your annual leave entitlement while you are off sick, once you have a medical certificate.If you are on long-term sick leave and cannot take your annual leave due to illness, you can carry it over for up to 15 months after the end of the year you built it up. If you leave your job within these 15 months, you should get holiday pay for the day’s leave you did not take due to illness. There will be 400 to 500 jobs added, bringing Pfizer’s total headcount in the country to approximately 5,500.The funding injection will provide for a new facility built on the site premises at Grange Castle. Additional Needs Payment to Help with Added Expenses even if Working

Right to request remote work for all workers to be introduced through the DCEDIY Work Life Balance BillA new law aimed at giving employees the right to request remote work is to be included in The Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2022 which is expected to be signed into law by the end of the year.Under the bill, the grounds for refusal will be replaced by an obligation on the employer to consider both their needs and the needs of employees when assessing a request. Employers will also be required to have regard to the new code of practice and a complaint can be taken to the Workplace Relations Commission where an employer hasn&#39;t complied with the code.The Bill will transpose the EU Work Life Balance Directive (Directive) into Irish law and provide additional statutory entitlements to parents and carers also in support of a better work life balance, such as;•	The introduction of five days unpaid leave per year to provide care or support to certain categories of people.•	A right for parents and carers to request flexible working arrangements for caring purposes.•	The extension of the current entitlement to breastfeeding breaks under the Maternity Protection Acts from six months to two years.<a href="https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bill/2022/92/"></a><h2><a href="https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bill/2022/92/"></a></h2><h2>In a recent announcement the Government said the legislative right to request remote working would be fast-tracked</h2>Agreement between the Tánaiste and Minister O’Gorman also provides greater certainty for workers and employers, with plans to further extend flexible work to all workers following a review of the legislation in two years.The Government approved the integration of the Right to Request Remote Work for all workers into the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill which is expected to be delivered by the end of the year. The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar TD, and the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman TD, together agreed that amending the Work Life Balance Bill is the most efficient and practical way to introduce the right to request remote work to all workers.Welcoming the Government decision the Tánaiste said:<blockquote>“The Right to Request Remote Work is an important item on my agenda to improve workers’ rights and modernise the world of work. “The benefits of remote working are obvious – less commuting, fewer transport emissions, better quality of life with more time with family and friends. New job opportunities will be created for people who want to live in rural Ireland, for people with disabilities and for people with caring responsibilities. Smaller towns and villages across Ireland will benefit from new investment, increased footfall and local spend.“I am pleased that the Government and my colleague Minister O’Gorman has agreed to include this important new legal right for all workers in the Work Life Balance Bill which is already well advanced in the Oireachtas. Our collaboration on this legislation shows the commitment across Government to develop fairer, safer and more attractive workplaces.” </blockquote>Integrating the Right to Request Remote Work for all workers into the Work Life Balance Bill means that employers and employees will now be making and considering requests for flexible or remote working under one piece of legislation and one Code of Practice to be developed by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC). This will streamline the process and will help avoid inconsistencies and confusion. Under the new legislation employees will have a legal right to request remote working from their employer. In addition, employers will now be required to have regard to the Code of Practice when considering requests. The Code of Practice will be established on a statutory footing and, it is expected that this Code will include guidance to employers and employees on their obligations regarding compliance. Minister O’Gorman said<blockquote>“The Tánaiste and I have reflected on the recommendations of the Pre-Legislative Scrutiny Reports of both Bills, and input from stakeholders, including observations made in this House, and it is clear that integrating the relevant legislative provisions of the Right to Request Remote Working Bill into the Work Life Balance Bill represents a practical way forward. “I am conscious that many employers who went to great lengths to accommodate flexible working during the pandemic are now working out the extent to which it can be part of their businesses in the longer term. However, we will keep this legislation under review. <h2>According to a survey of chief financial officers, retaining and attracting the right talent is one of the biggest risks facing businesses in the year ahead.</h2>The research was carried out by Deloitte among 1,151 CFOs based in 15 countries across Europe, including Ireland.The findings differ from the previous survey carried out earlier this year, in which the economic outlook and geopolitical risks ranked as the top two risks.In order to attract and retain talent, 85% of the CFOs surveyed said they are rolling out flexible working patterns.Meanwhile, 69% said they are reviewing their total reward offering, 68% are investing in wellbeing and assistance programmes, and 59% are investing in sustainability initiatives - such as measures to reduce their carbon footprint. Minister Harris announces further changes for school leavers on the CAO portal which opened for applications on 4 November 2022 for 2023/2024Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris has confirmed school leavers will now be able to access information on traineeships from the Central Applications Office portal. Since last year, students who log onto <a href="https://www.cao.ie/?page=options">www.cao.ie/options</a> can view all of their options including apprenticeships and further education and training.This year, the range of options will be expanded to include traineeships. Traineeships are schemes that combine classroom education and hands-on work experience, and are run by Education and Training Boards (ETBs) in conjunction with industry representative bodies and employers.Speaking today, Minister Harris said:<blockquote>&quot;Today, the CAO will open for applications. You are entitled to claim for any elderly dependent relatives whether they reside in Ireland or elsewhere in the world.The allowance increased from €70 to €245 per dependent relative from 1st January 2021. If you have supported 4 people in 2021, you will be able to claim a rebate of up to €980. Maintaining a relative at your own expense means meeting the costs of everyday living. You must substantially maintain your relative where they cannot maintain themselves.Conditions to qualifyThe relative you claim for must be your, or your spouse&#39;s or civil partner&#39;s:•	relative, who is unable to maintain themselves due to incapacity by old age or infirmity•	widowed father or widowed mother, whether incapacitated or not•	parent who is a surviving civil partner, whether they are incapacitated or not•	child who lives with you and on whose services you depend due to your old age or infirmity.There is no requirement for the relative to live in Ireland to qualify for this credit. However, if you are claiming for your child on whose services you depend, that child must live in Ireland with you.You cannot generally claim the credit for your child, unless they live with you and are your carer. In this case your child’s income cannot exceed €16,156.If you are claiming for a relative who resides outside of Ireland you must be able to prove that you substantially maintain this relative. You should also be able to prove that the relative is incapacitated by old age or infirmity from maintaining themselves in relevant cases.Relief dueYou can receive a tax credit of €245 with effect from 1 January 2021 (€70 for previous years).You will not receive a tax credit if your dependent relative&#39;s income exceeds €16,156 with effect from 1 January 2022 (€15,740 for 2021).All of your dependent relative&#39;s income is included for the income limit purposes. This child may be:•	your own child•	an adopted child•	any child that you support and maintain at your own expense.Only one parent or guardian of a child can claim the SPCCC in a tax year. You may only claim one credit, even if you care for more than one child.This credit came into effect on 1 January 2014. The value of this tax credit is €1,650 per year. This will reduce the tax you pay by €31.73 per week.You may also be entitled to an increased rate band of €4,000. This is an additional €4,000 at the 20% tax rate. Under the scheme an employer can pay for a new bicycle (including bicycle accessories) and the employee then repays the cost in regular instalments from their gross salary.You are not liable for tax, PRSI or the Universal Social Charge on your repayments.Your employer does not have to take part in the scheme. However if they do, they must offer it to all their employees. If you are self-employed you are not entitled to avail of the Bike to Work Scheme unless you pay PRSI as an employee in addition to your self-employed work.The scheme applies to bikes and equipment up to the value of €1,250 and for pedelecs or e-bikes and related safety equipment up to the value of €1,500.As an employee you can use the scheme once every 4 years. The four-year span between tax breaks is counted by tax year.
