CNM Research Nurse
Purpose of the Role: Clinical research is essential to provide an evidence base for improved medicines and treatment of sick children. It is well accepted internationally that hospitals active in research and innovation are associated with better outcomes for patients and better recruitment and retention of staff. As Ireland’s largest paediatric hospital and the leading centre in Ireland for the conduct of clinical trials and studies in children and young adults, CHI has placed excellence in research and innovation as one of its key strategic objectives. As part of ongoing development at CHI towards the opening of the new Children’s Hospital, a rationalisation and integration of the existing clinical research infrastructure across all sites is being undertaken. Under the leadership of the CHI Director of Research & Innovation, a new Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and Clinical Research Centre (CRC) are being set-up within CHI and will bring all aspects of clinical research infrastructure together under a single governance and management structure. The Clinical Research Centre is the forerunner of the new paediatric Clinical Research Facility (CRF) that will be embedded in the new Children’s Hospital. The CRC is made up of a team of research staff working across CHI sites to support clinical teams in the conduct of clinical trials and other clinical research studies that require specialist expertise and support. The Clinical Research Nurse is a key part of this team, working to support Investigators and research teams with clinical research activities. They will act as the primary advocate for the patient, both prior to and throughout their participation in a research study or clinical trial. As part of a team of Research Nurses, they will work closely with the CRC Operations Manager, Project Managers, Research Nurses and Research Coordinators, ensuring that study activities are carried out effectively and in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. They will have particular focus on assisting the Principal Investigator to enrol patients to studies and clinical trials and schedule and conduct study visits, ensuring patient safety throughout and maintaining the Investigator Site File. Throughout the research study lifecycle, this role will provide continuity back-up and support as required to other Clinical Research Nurses and Coordinators to ensure the smooth running of research activities from set-up through to closeout, across the portfolio. Consultant Paediatric Respiratory Physician
Children’s Health Ireland are seeking to fill this Consultant Paediatric Respiratory Physician post on a permanent basis 37 hours per week at Children’s Health Ireland. This includes 18.50 hours per week at CHI at Temple Street and 18.50 hours per week at CHI at Tallaght. Purpose of the Role: Strategy: i) To reduce extremely long waiting lists for outpatient clinic review: currently there is a two year waiting list for a routine new appointment with a consultant in paediatric respiratory medicine at CHI at Temple Street and 1 year at CHI at Tallaght. ii) To reduce waiting lists for investigations of sleep disordered breathing. Currently there is a two year waiting list for overnight studies to diagnose these disorders e.g. overnight oxygen and carbon dioxide studies and overnight oxygen studies. There is a two year waiting list for both of these studies at CHI at Temple St. At CHI at Tallaght, there is a 20 month waiting list for overnight oxygen and carbon dioxide studies, a 29-month with for overnight oxygen studies and a 5 month waiting list for cardiorespiratory polygraphy (CRPG). iii) To reduce waiting times for investigations to assess and regularly monitor gas exchange in children on long term ventilation (e.g. CPAP and BIPAP: overnight sleep study waiting times as outlined above. Specialities whose workload will change: This will reduce the waiting time for patients referred for Respiratory review and investigation from other specialties including ENT, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Metabolic, Endocrine, Neuro-disability, General Paediatrics, Craniofacial etc. This will reduce waiting time for GP referrals for secondary and tertiary respiratory review. Respiratory service: Currently, there is a two year waiting list for routine new outpatient paediatric Respiratory appointments in CHI at Temple St. and a one year waiting time in CHI at Tallaght. There is a two year wait for overnight oxygen studies investigations for sleep disordered breathing in CHI Temple Street and 29 months waiting list at CHI Tallaght. There is a two year wait for overnight oxygen and carbon dioxide studies for routine assessment of children on long term ventilation (e.g. CPAP and BIPAP) and those with sleep disordered breathing at CHI Temple St and similarly a 20 and 18 month waiting list espectively at CHI Tallaght (e.g. overnight oxygen and carbon dioxide studies). These studies are important to assess and regularly monitor the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. Provision of a long term ventilation service for children: the number of referrals for this service from a broad range of sub-specialities has hugely increased over the last few years as have referrals from across the country. Eligibility Criteria Professional Qualifications and Experience Mandatory: a) Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Paediatrics and b) Two years certified postgraduate training in paediatric respiratory medicine The successful interviewee must be registered as a specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland, within 180 days of the day of interview and before taking up appointment. In exceptional circumstances proleptic appointments may be considered for candidates engaged in relevant training programmes. The Consultant must, at all times while continuing to hold office, continue to be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland. Documentary evidence of Medical Council Registration is required and must be produced annually to the Medical Administration Department within the Children’s Health Ireland. Should the successful candidate not be registered as a Specialist at that time, the post may be offered to the next suitable candidate. Should no suitable candidate exist, a further recruitment process may be initiated. Desirable Criteria: Clinical fellowship, or specialist training, in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, national or international. Experience with interventional bronchoscopy and aerodigestive disorders is desirable but not essential. Supplies Officer Grade B Purpose of the Role: The post holder will provide procurement & supply chain for the theatre team on site. Will work with all the key stakeholders for day-to-day stock replenishment & management of consumable items (Household, Medical & Surgical & PPE). Will be the key on site administrator of the stock replenishment solution. Liaise with all staff/personnel in the theatre and where required, other departments to ensure effective communication when responding to request and/or queries promoting a professional manner at all times. Processing of stock requisition to stock issues within the agreed delivery schedule. Ensure completion of queries/discrepancies in relation to stock issues and stock returns. Ensure that timely and accurate information is supplied to the Buyer Planners – information / requests from areas, reorder information etc. The Procurement & Supply Chain Department is responsible for providing all clinical services and departments with a cost effective and efficient service in terms of goods and services purchased and distributed.
