Locum Consultant In Paediatric Critical Care Medicine

Purpose of the Role To deliver specialist tertiary level general medical, surgical and cardiac paediatric critical care. To lead a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of such care. To pursue and maintain excellence through continuous engagement in quality improvement and risk management processes. To advocate for the implementation of national standards of care for the critically ill child both within CHI and throughout the Irish Paediatric Network. To share expertise through active engagement in education and the timely support of colleagues. To help in shaping the evolution of the specialty of Paediatric Critical Care in Ireland so that it continues to meet the needs of patients and their families in the future. Eligibility Criteria a) Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Paediatrics, Anaesthesiology or Paediatric Surgery. b) Two years of continuous certified postgraduate training in paediatric critical care medicine of which at least one year must be in congenital cardiac critical care. c) One year of training programme must be post CSCST. d) Non-anaesthesiology trainees to have completed training in anaesthesiology in line with the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland’s requirements in effect at the commencement of the candidate’s training. The current requirement is 6 months. The successful interviewee must be registered as a specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland, within 180 days of the day of interview and before taking up appointment. Should the successful candidate not be registered as a Specialist at that time, the post may be offered to the next suitable candidate. Should no suitable candidate exist, a further recruitment process may be initiated. The postholder will be a member of the neuroscience OT team, providing comprehensive OT services to children and families that are referred and accepted. This will involve supporting clinical activity across the MDTs of Neurosurgery, Neurology and Neuro-rehab. The post holder with work with children admitted to the hospital as a result of a brain tumour, traumatic brain injury, neurological disorders or those under investigation due to new neurological presentations and/or neural tube defects. The role encompasses supporting the neuro-rehabilitation of children during their stay in CHI-TS and supporting their safe onward discharge to home, community or specialised centres. The post holder will maintain appropriate clinical competencies to work across the neuroscience service, whilst supporting junior members of staff to carry out their clinical duties. The post holder will support the service development of the OT neurosciences service whilst acting as lead for one of the clinical MDTs and associated OT service developments. The post-holder will contribute to departmental cross cover as directed by the OT Manager and Neuroscience Clinical Specialist. Salary in line with HSE consolidated pay scales This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with advanced knowledge and skills in paediatric FEDS to join us in supporting children and their families, presenting with complex needs arising from a disability. St. Michael’s House CDNTs have a large SLT team with well-established paediatric FEDS services and pathways, including inter-disciplinary team clinics for children presenting with complex FEDS needs. The SLTs work closely with Paediatricians and Dietitians in addition to the core interdisciplinary team. The successful candidate will join the existing team of CDNT SLTs in a leadership role to further develop FEDS clinical pathways, interventions and to implement clinical research. The Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNTs) provide a quality evidence-based service in line with Progressing Disability Services (PDS) principles including family-centred practice. Excellent clinical governance structures are in place including regular line management provided by the Children’s Disability Network Manager and clinical supervision provided by the SLT Manager.
