The Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman, has today announced that victims of domestic violence will receive their full pay if they need to take domestic violence leave.Domestic violence leave will be formally introduced in the autumn with the publication of regulations setting out the rate of pay and guidance for employers, currently being developed by Women’s Aid. The new form of leave was introduced as part of the Work Life Balance Act, passed earlier this year.Speaking today, Minister O’Gorman said:<blockquote>‘Domestic violence leave gives a victim of domestic violence the chance to access support without impacting on their employment and income. It is important that they can take the leave without worrying about losing income or being put at more risk. Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris and Minister of State for Skills and Further Education Niall Collins have today (Monday, 5 June) launched more than 11,000 free or subsidised places on college courses.The courses are in areas that have been identified as of critical importance such as Cybersecurity, Virtual Reality, Health Innovation, Logistics and Online Retail.Programmes in Climate, Sustainability and Energy which are central to the Programme for Government are also being funded.Courses are free for the unemployed, previously self-employed and returners to the workforce.For others, 90 per cent of the course fee is funded by the government, with participants required to contribute just 10 per cent of the fee.Speaking today, Minister Harris said:<blockquote>&quot;This is providing brilliant opportunities for people to upskill and reskill in areas of skills shortages, futureproof their career, and progress in, or re-enter the workforce.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;Most programmes are delivered either fully online or in a blended format making them fully accessible, meeting the rapidly-evolving needs of our economy and our commitment to lifelong learning.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;Today’s announcement help us to ensure that our workforce is equipped to respond to the rapid changes in the world of work brought about by digitisation, with courses spanning areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Financial Technologies.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;They will also play a vital role in our response to the green transition by providing funding for programmes in areas such as Climate, Sustainability and Renewable Energy which will provide the skills needed to help us reach our ambitious 2030 targets for energy efficiency and decarbonisation.</blockquote><blockquote>&quot;In this, the European Year of Skills, it is vital that we all consider the opportunity to learn a new skill. Courses are not all a full award at each level – they may also be minor awards or special purposes awards. All courses provide job-readiness training and most offer the opportunity for work placement, project-based learning or industry site visits where appropriate.All courses approved for funding under Springboard+ are selected following a competitive tendering process, with multi-annual funding arrangements in place. In particular, courses with a proven track record in getting people back into employment are recommended for funding. The majority of courses approved under Springboard+ 2023 will start later in 2023 and in early 2024.<h3>Human Capital Initiative Pillar 1 – Graduate Conversion Courses</h3>The Human Capital Initiative (HCI) was announced as part of Budget 2019. The initiative provides additional capacity across the Higher Education Sector to meet priority skill needs for enterprise. Graduate Conversion Programmes under HCI Pillar 1 offer incentivised places for graduates to reskill in areas of skills shortage and emerging technologies. These are being run alongside, and complementary to, the Springboard+ offerings.These courses are one year, full time conversion and part-time courses at Levels 7-9, in areas of identified skills need, building on experience of the ICT Conversion Courses under Springboard+. To date, HCI Pillar 1 has provided 7,288 graduate conversion places on 95 courses over a 3-year period.Under HCI Pillar 1 2023 a call for proposals was published to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in January 2023. After her mastectomy in April 2013 she decided to do something to cheer her up and maybe raise a few quid for Childhood Cancer…. over one Million Euro later …. €1,039,000 to be exact….Together we have funded a respite home for families with children going through cancer and have helped realise Aoibheann’s Pink Tie dreams.We welcome all women to the dip as long as they are over 18. The charity was formed in her memory to remedy the lack of support for other children and their families going through treatment.Families of children diagnosed with cancer are completely and utterly focused on their sick child. Become a Community First Responder A CFR is a person trained to a minimum level of basic life support in CPR and the use of an AED/defibrillator, who attends a potentially life-threatening emergency such as a cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke or choking. 
First Responder teams are engrained in the communities all across Ireland, they are run entirely by volunteers with Support from the National Ambulance Service. These community schemes offer services such as:-Community First Responders-Public Access Defib Programmes-Community TrainingWhat is a CFR?Community First Responders (CFR) are volunteers who are trained to attend certain types of emergency calls in the area where they live or work. Their aim is to reach a potential life-threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives.Their role is to help stabilise the patient and provide the appropriate care including CPR &amp; defibrillation, until the more highly skilled ambulance crew arrives on the scene to take over the treatment.  CFR groups who are linked to the National Ambulance Service-NAS National Emergency Operations Centre are alerted to an emergency in their area and as they arecommunity-based, can provide medical assistance within minutes of a 112/999 call being received.
What a Community First Responder doesIn order for Community First Responders to become active responding to emergency incidents on behalf of the National Ambulance Service there are a number of basic requirements.All Responders must-Have a can do and positive attitude towards helping your community-Be over 18 years of age-Be of good character and willing to learn.-Have access to a fully insured vehicle ( and licensed to drive it ) or transport enabling you to reach the patient within the assigned time &amp; radius.-NO medical experience is necessary as all training will be provided by your scheme.-Be Garda Vetted ( by your Scheme Manager )Whilst these requirements are mandatory for a response role, many CFR schemes have a variety of alternative volunteer positions including training, administration and fundraising. Training is provided locally with each scheme providing initial CFR certification and regular ongoing training.The National Ambulance Service support CFR scheme’s nationally through the provision of instructor training courses and training events ( CPC ) on a regular basis. Ryanair has announced plans to expand its aircraft maintenance facility at Dublin Airport with the construction of a new state-of-the-art 4-bay hangar – a €40m investment and creating over 200 new highly paid and highly skilled jobs for engineers and mechanics. This new 120,000sq foot hangar will be one of the most environmentally friendly hangars in the EU with gas absorption heat pumps reducing energy use by up to 35%. The hangar will facilitate the heavy and line maintenance of Ryanair’s fleet at Dublin Airport as the airline grow its fleet to 600 aircraft with the delivery of more efficient new technology 737-8200 aircraft, which carry 4% more passengers while burning 16% less fuel and emitting 40% less noise. New details of “groundbreaking” degree courses outside the CAO points race in areas such as nursing, computer science, engineering and business are due to be announced on Wednesday.The move is part of a drive to create alternative pathways to third level without the need to secure high points.It also aims to forge closer links between further education colleges and universities and reduce student dropout rates.<h4>September start</h4>Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris, who is due to address the Teachers’ Union of Ireland conference on Tuesday, is expected to confirm details of 14 new degree programmes, outside the CAO system. These courses will start in a further education college before transitioning to a university or technological university.It includes a new programme in nursing which will be available in further education colleges in the northwest before moving to one of the Atlantic Technological University’s campuses at St Angela’s in Sligo, Letterkenny or Castlebar. The courses will commence in September and will be open for applications to students in July.A second batch of courses is due to commence in September 2024 in areas such as culinary arts, music technology, sustainability, performing arts and supply chain management.The pathway to accessing these courses will be determined shortly. However, it is expected to mirror the existing application process for further education and training which tends to require the completion of the Leaving Cert or Leaving Cert Applied rather than CAO points. Mr Harris is also due to outline new plans to roll out disability supports to further education students, apprentices and trainees.At present supports are confined to students completing a Post-Leaving Cert (PLC) course.<h4>Disability supports</h4>Under the new plan, any part of the training system now will be able to access supports including personal assistants and dedicated learner supports. This will commence in 2024.
