Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability
Location of Post Sacred Heart Centre, Lady Lane, Waterford City, Waterford X91 KA43 A panel will be created from this campaign Staff Nurse (Intellectual Disability) from which future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled. Details of Service The Centre primarily supports families of children with multiple complex needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, Medical complexities and Intellectual Disabilities. The main function of the Centre is to empower children with a broad range of difficulties and their families to develop to their full potential in a safe, nurturing and educational environment. Programmes and play based activities comprise the daily schedule at the Centre to further enhance language and communication skills, social skills such as play, turn-taking and sharing, joint attention and engagement, daily living skills such as toileting, dressing/undressing, brushing teeth/hair and participating in a social environment with peers to further develop holistically. Services within the Centre September - July: 1. Early Intervention Group 1: 9am – 11.45am (Mon-Fri) Children age from 18 months to 3 years (5-6 children in the room at one time). The child will present with significant developmental delay in a number of areas and requires significant support to participate in small groups for short periods of time to further develop learning and skills. The child may require some supported individual attention to engage and actively participate in programmes. 2. Toddler Group 2 + 3: 9am – 11.45am (Mon-Fri) Children age from 18 months to 3 years (5-6 children in the room at one time). The child will have a developmental delay in a number of areas. However the child will have established joint attention and is capable of participating in small group situations with some support. Other skills may be already developed such as awareness around toileting, capable to sit in groups and take turns, and some words emerging. Structure and facilitation are required to further enhance these skills. 3. Early Intervention Group 4: 12.30pm – 3.15pm (Mon-Fri) Children age from 3 years to 5 years (5-6 children in the room at one time). The child will present with significant developmental delay in a number of areas and requires significant support to participate in small groups for short periods of time to further develop learning and skills. The child may require some supported individual attention to engage and actively participate in programmes 4. Playgroup Group 5: 12.30pm – 3.15pm (Mon-Fri) Children age from 3 years to 5 years (5-6 children in the room at one time). The child will have developmental delay in a number of areas. However the child will have established joint attention and is capable of participating in small groups with some support/guidance. Other skills may be already developed such as awareness around toileting, capable to sit in groups and take turns, and some words emerging. Structure and facilitation are required to further enhance these skills. 1. Aftercare 3pm-5pm (Mon-Fri) Children age from 6 years to 18 years (2-3 children depending on staffing levels and complexities of the child). After- school service for children with multiple complex needs. They have access to one afternoon a week based on staffing levels/resources available at the time. Can be collected from nearby Special School on the Minibus. The child has access to social programmes (walks around the local town), intimate care programmes and relaxation programmes. Summer Respite: The Centre provides Day Respite from the middle of July to the end of August (total of 5 weeks). It is sessional, two sessions per day: 9am-12.15pm and 1pm-4pm, Monday to Friday. Children aged 6 years to 18 year with multiple complex needs avail of this service. They have access to various activities such as music sessions, local farm and petting zoo, playgrounds, swimming and outings to different areas in the community – all funded by Touching Hearts (Formerly Friends and Family Association of the Sacred Heart). The service is delivered by the staff of the Sacred Heart Centre.
