Youth Advocate Programmes Ireland Vacancies: Advocates – Fixed Purpose Contracts YAP Ireland is continuously recruiting male and female Advocates from all areas to work within their local communities, supporting children, young people and families to achieve their goals. YAP Advocates come from all walks of life and make a huge difference to the lives of Young People and Families. The young people we work with come from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. We provide training and experience that creates opportunities for Advocates to become skilled at working with young people and families within their community in a strengths-based way. Youth Advocates – Fixed Purpose Contracts – Person Spec and Job Description The Youth Advocate reports to a Team Leader. This post requires working within the YAP strengths-based model, to provide 1:1 support for vulnerable young people and their families and to support them in their home and local communities so that they can achieve their goals. YAP Ireland provides a strengths-based, needs led service for 6-12 months to children, young people and families who are struggling with a range of issues in their lives. You will work intensively with them to achieve positive change and meet their goals. Responsibilities and Tasks: 1. To deliver a 1:1 service to young people and families under the supervision and support of the Team Leader. 2. Together with the Team Leader to build a positive, supportive working relationship with the young person and their family using the YAP strengths-based model to help them achieve their goals. 3. Together with the Team Leader, to develop a plan of work (Individualised Service Plan) to focus on the abilities, strengths and needs of the young person and their families. 4. To carry out day to day work with the young person and family, addressing their needs as outlined in the ISP. This may involve supporting the young person to participate in appropriate education, accessing appropriate services or finding community activities to link the young person into. 5. To promote, enable and empower the young person and families voice to be heard and ensure they have a voice in their service/life/community. This includes activity groups, participation and consultation groups. 6.Together with the Team Leader, to adopt a Wraparound approach that will bring together those key people and services who can offer support to the young person and family during and after the YAP Service. 7. To identify and evaluate the changing needs and interests of the child/young person as the relationship progresses and to adapt the service accordingly. 8. To understand the Health and Safety policies required for all activities with young people including any specific medical history, medications and specific special needs and/or diagnosis. 9. To complete in a timely and accurate manner the required weekly paperwork and to submit to the line manager by the agreed deadlines. 10. To be familiar with all Yap’s current policies and procedures, especially in the areas of Child Protection, Confidentiality and On-Call and to work within those in a professional manner. 11. To attend staff development, training and supervisory sessions as scheduled. This will include regular supervision. Some training courses are mandatory and advocates will be required to attend this training. 12. To undertake other duties as appropriate. Advocate Person Specification ExperienceEssential Life Experience relevant to young people and families e.g. raising children, child minding, sports coaching, community work, volunteering, youth club or lived experience of overcoming the challenges facing young people and families. Non-essential 3 months experience of working / volunteering within a youth work, family support or community setting Skills Essential A positive attitude towards children and young people and an ability to work from a strengths based perspective, be non-judgemental and creative. A knowledge/understanding of issues affecting young people. Good communication skills Good time management and organisational skills Basic computer skills Ability to write reports on work undertaken Full Driving Licence and own transport. Galway area) Ref: 103883 DESCRIPTION AND VISION OF CORLANN Corlann West Region provide a community based, person centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of Corlann is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community, in line with best practice both nationally and internationally. Working in partnership with each person supported by Corlann, we aim to create opportunities for people supported by Corlann to have ordinary life experiences and to be closely connected to family and friends. We are committed to supporting people to live a life of their choosing. John Paul Adult Services provides a combination of campus and community based services to adults with varying support needs, based on personal outcome measures. Our services are currently undergoing a transition from a campus-based service to community living, where we aim to create opportunities for the people we support to be valued citizens in their communities and to have everyday life experiences. We wish to recruit innovative, creative and motivated people who will relish the opportunity to assist in achieving this vision as part of a team. We are looking for people who will be flexible and adapt to the needs of particular individuals they support and are open to change. Location: John Paul Adult Services (Ballybane Co. Galway). Staff allocation is dependent on service need. The appointee may initially commence working in one particular area of the John Paul Adult Services and this work location may change due to future service needs. The Role: Staff Nurses fulfil a key worker supportive and advocative role for adults supported by the service in all aspects of their lives, focusing on each individual’s ability and promoting independence and development of skills at all times. The Staff Nurse and Enhanced Staff Nurse will assist people with the development of person-centred plans and critically, will support people to make informed choices and fulfil their potential. They will encourage participation in the community through inclusive and creative thinking, seek opportunities for new experiences and encourage positive risk taking in leading to informed choices. Reporting/Responsible to: Team Leader/Team Manager Qualifications & Experience: Candidates must have - · A current Live Register Certificate from the NMBI (An Bord Altranais). · RNID, RMN or RGN qualification is essential. · A full, clean, manual Irish Driving Licence is desirable. A commitment to obtaining a full licence within nine months of commencement is required as it is essential that the appointee can drive the transport assigned to the Service. Due to the nature and location of services, many service areas require applicants to hold a full, clean, manual Irish Driving Licence. Applicants who do not hold a full, clean, manual Irish Driving Licence may not be eligible for work in certain service areas. Experience of working with people with an intellectual disability/autism/complex needs is desirable, however, induction and training will be provided. · Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post and proficiency in I.T. skills. The Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures quality and person centred planning system requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each person supported Annual Leave: 24 days pro rata per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively. Remuneration (Department of Health salary scales as at 01/06/2026 apply): Staff Nurse - €38,166 x 11 increments - €54,956 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long Service Increment €56,592 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. *Enhanced Nurse – € 45,259 x 7 increments - €56,762 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long Service Increment €58,424 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. *As per HSE HR Circular 022/2019 – Nursing and Midwifery - the Enhanced Nurse / Midwife Practice Contract https://www.hse.ie/eng/staff/resources/hr-circulars/hr-circular-022-2019-re-enhanced-nurse-midwife-contract.pdf ; once a staff nurse reaches point 4 on the Staff Nurse salary scale, they become eligible to apply for the role of Enhanced Nurse. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service. Additional payments will be paid for weekends, public holidays, and sleep-ins and night duty when worked. A location allowance of €2,743 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) will also be paid when assigned to services where 75% of the persons supported have a diagnosis of severe/profound intellectual disability. Tenure: A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent permanent, temporary or fixed term Staff Nurse / Enhanced Nurse appointments within the John Paul Service location may be offered over the next 6 months. Probation: A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment.
