This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland’s Ardnacrusha hydropower generating station and on the Shannon Scheme. We have been generating electricity on the Shannon since 1929. The station team plays a pivotal role in ensuring Ardnacrusha’s safety, commercial and technical performance is optimised. ESB Ardnacrusha Station has 3 Francis turbines and 1 Kaplan Type Turbine, 4 generators (G1 – G4: rated at 21MW, 22MW, 19MW and 24MW respectively) and responsibility for all the associated dams, weirs, gates, and civil structures associated with the Shannon hydroelectric scheme. This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland’s only pumped storage hydro power station located at Turlough Hill, and in our 3 traditional hydro power stations on the River Liffey. We have been generating electricity on the Liffey since 1944, and at Turlough Hill since 1974. Our stations have a combined generating capacity of 330MW. The stations asset management team play a pivotal role in ensuring the stations commercial / technical performance is optimised. Liffey and Turlough Hill stations are made up of 4 separate generating locations; 292MW of pumped storage at Turlough Hill and 38MW of hydro generation at Poulaphuca, Golden Falls and Leixlip. This comprises 9 power turbines and all the associated dams, gates and civil structures associated with the river Liffey hydroelectric scheme and Turlough Hill. The Ballyshannon stations are known collectively as the Erne hydro-electric scheme. Cathaleen’s Fall, Cliff Station and Clady Station. The Erne Scheme is the second largest source of hydroelectric power in the country. generating a capacity of almost 70MWs, supplying electricity to over 38,000 homes. The Hydro stations are part of ESB’s low-carbon generation portfolio and play an important part in ESB’s renewable energy strategy of NetZero by 2040. During this time, you’ll earn while you learn and receive mentorship from craft professionals at Tirlán. As an apprentice, you will: • Maintain site process equipment, including utilities. Process equipment includes various types of motors, pumps, valves, fans, chart recorders, process instrumentation and packaging systems. • Replace and repair defective mechanical & electrical equipment, instruments, and cabling when necessary. • Carry out all operations to conform to GMP requirements. • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures, including the use of the appropriate protective clothing. • Under senior craft supervision you will carry out scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PMs) on process and utilities equipment - Working on fault find/troubleshooting with equipment such as flow meters, control valves, temperature transmitters, VSD’s, Profibus, SCADA systems, pasteurisers, evaporators, drying systems, material transport systems and utility systems as part of a team and as an individual. • Liaise with all Maintenance, Manufacturing, Project, Quality and any other site personnel, to meet the site objectives. • Provide feedback on equipment and spares issues. Fill out all required paper work such as PM documentation, Lockout Tagout permit book and adhere to all site protocols. • Inform maintenance lead, shift manager or any relevant site personnel of impact of work being carried out and results of any issues that may arise. • Provide accurate reporting as necessary, including the use of computer maintenance system (CMMS – SAP).
