Details of Service The HSE Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNT) in CDNTs are interdisciplinary teams providing assessment and intervention to children and young people aged 0-18 years who have complex needs arising from a disability. The HSE CDNTs work with children and families living in the Sligo and Leitrim/ west Cavan area of Community Health Networks. The Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist will be a core member of the CDNT and is central to the promotion and delivery of frontline health and social services. Much of the work carried out is with the family and systems surrounding the child including health, welfare and education services, providing a holistic approach promoting the safety and welfare of the children attending the service. The role will also include supporting families before, during and post diagnosis. Using the key principles of the Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People programme as a model of service which is based on family centred practice and interdisciplinary team working, these teams will provide therapeutic assessment and intervention to children aged between 0-18 years. The CDNT’s are charged with the delivery of an efficient and effective health and personal social service for children and young people with complex needs relating to a disability. These teams will include Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Social Work, Nursing and Dietetics The Sligo / Leitrim CDNTs work closely together and are supported by a Paediatrician in Neurodisability who undertakes clinics with each CDNT. Reporting Relationship · The post holder will report to the Children’s Disability Network Manager Key Working Relationships · Operationally responsible to the Children’s Disability Network Manager. · Clinically supervision will be provided by Speech and Language Therapy Manager · Working with the Children’s Disability Network Teams for Sligo, Leitrim & west Cavan area. Purpose of the Post The Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist will · Provide a specialist support in Feeding, Eating. Drinking Swallowing (FEDS) for the client population. · Act as a resource and provide expert opinion, advice and guidance to Speech and Language Therapy colleagues and other members of the CDNT. · Participate in the development of the strategic direction of the FEDS service in conjunction with the CDNM, the Speech and Language Therapy and relevant agencies and stakeholders. · In conjunction with the CDNM and Speech and Language Therapy Manager, develop local policies and care pathways within the specialist area.
