Purpose of the Role Epilepsy and complex epilepsy represents the most prevalent cohort of patients in Paediatric Neurology. The consultant will diagnose and manage children with epilepsy and other neurological disorders in CHI at Temple Street. The consultant will be involved in the medical and surgical management of patients with epilepsy and form part of the wider epilepsy management team including other consultant paediatric neurologists, neurophysiologists, radiology, neurosurgical, nursing and allied health professionals. The consultant will be required to attend, when appropriate the Epilepsy Surgery Review Meeting (ESRM) in Beaumont. The role will involve leading and coordinating the Ketogenic Diet service at Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street. The role will involve leading and coordinating care of children with Narcolepsy at Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street. The role has had a historical neurology service to the Central Remedial Clinic (CRC). This post will help sustain the ability to provide appropriate, specialist diagnostic approaches and techniques, appropriate diagnostic information to families on what are often ultra-rare neurological disorders and provide and sustain appropriate and new interventional therapeutics (where available) to children with epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Furthermore, this post will also contribute to the general neurology work-load improving clinic waiting times by managing patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions. This post will contribute to inpatient management of neurology patients and participate in the neurology oncall rota. The post will increase availability of Neurologists to Paediatricians seeking advice on Neurological Disorders from around the country. Elligibility Criteria a) Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Paediatrics And b) Two years postgraduate training and experience in related paediatric neurology specialties of which one year must be full time in paediatric epilepsy.
