Training Support Technician
Summary of Responsibilities: Training Area: Scenario Set-up, Delivery and Clear-up 1. Support the delivery of all operational and command training and assist in the maintenance of buildings and resources. 2. Complete allocated tasks or workloads in order to meet the demands of a large multi-facility operational training site. 3. Liaise with Training Site Manager, TST Team Leader and Trainers to support scenario preparation and management. 4. Prepare various areas of the site and test equipment to facilitate planned activities or events. Examples include (but are not restricted to); a. Classroom / meeting room set-up and post course arrangements. b. Fire appliance and equipment positioning. c. Live fire set-up and debris clearance. d. Preparation of breathing apparatus (BA) sets and cylinder charging. 5. Maintain agreed standards of housekeeping in all training and teaching areas. 6. Management of spare fire kit and contaminated fire kit for laundering process. 7. Perform a safety role to support activities, scenario or event delivery. 8. Temperature monitoring of fire compartments and recording of relevant data. 9. Preparation, monitoring and maintenance of equipment and training areas before, during and following training activities or events. Property & Equipment Testing & Maintenance 1. Conduct basic testing, maintenance and defecting (when necessary) of various equipment and systems within the LDC Training facility and ensure recording of relevant data on appropriate systems. Examples include (but are not restricted to);
- Gas Fire Training Props and Flood Water Treatment Plant.
- Building Safety Systems (i.e. Fire Alarm and Extraction Systems),
- Breathing Apparatus Compressor.
- Relevant vehicles and operational equipment
2. Complete testing and maintenance of any newly introduced equipment or systems to the LDC site. LDC Store Management: Equipment and Consumables
1. Store all LDC equipment (including vehicles and appliances) and consumables appropriately and complete audits of equipment and consumable inventories as necessary. 2. Monitor and report on consumable levels and training resources, and liaise with relevant line managers to arrange for re-ordering as required. 3. Refuel site equipment, vehicles, plant and machinery as required.
General Site/ Grounds Maintenance and Security 1. Site-wide / training ground inspection, cleaning, general maintenance and basic landscaping tasks. 2. Site -wide waste management. 3. Deep cleaning of fire compartments, training props and flood water channel. 4. Ensure site security protocols are adhered to. 5. Unlock / secure various training areas, props or compounds. 6. Perform periodic site security checks. 7. Investigate, report and record any security issues or suspicious activity identified. 8. Liaise with and facilitate contractors / maintenance personnel and other visitors to the site.
Health and Safety (H&S) 1. Maintain and appropriately use all relevant personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant to role tasks. 2. Support safe systems of work by assisting with periodic H&S inspections and report any H&S issues identified. 3. Isolate, secure, impound or remove H&S hazards appropriately as required. 4. Assist with accident reporting, accident investigation procedures and development of equipment and site risk assessments as required.
Off Site Activities 1. Transfer and transportation of vehicles, appliances, equipment, personnel and any other relevant items or materials between any NIFRS site, training or exercise sites or live operational incidents. 2. Complete alternative role appropriate duties at other NIFRS sites or locations during occasions of protracted operational incidents or widespread community health events.
General Responsibilities 1. Maintain familiarity with various critical aspects of the training facility to ensure safe and effective utilisation of the LDC training site. 2. Complete training courses or familiarisation / awareness training required to fulfil all tasks, duties and responsibilities of the role.
3. Provide a high level of internal and external customer service. 4. Undertake the duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of NIFRS. 5. Comply with all NIFRS frameworks, policies and procedures, including but not limited to those relating to legal requirements such as equality, health and safety and information governance. 6. Direct and signpost managers and officers to the appropriate source for issues outside the remit of this post. 7. Undertake any other duties which may be assigned to meet organisational need and the change agenda and which are reasonably regarded as within the nature of the duties, responsibilities and grade of the post as defined. 8. Take responsibility for individual and personal performance upholding NIFRS core values of - Community, Improvement, Respect and Integrity. Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A minimum of three years' experience working as a driver/handyperson or similar in a maintenance and/or service delivery environment
- Possess a full and current UK Driving Licence with category BE OR
- Possess a full and current UK Driving Licence and be willing to undertake training to achieve category BE within a specified period following appointment if not included on current licence.
- Possess a LGV-C Licence OR
- Be willing to undertake training to achieve a LGVC Licence qualification within a specified period following appointment.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of Windows and other Microsoft applications.
Can demonstrate: (a) Effective planning, organisation, prioritising skills and attention to detail; (b) The ability to work individually or as a team member; (c) Effective communication skills (both oral and written).
