Job Title: Sr. Database Administrator

Reports To: Manager, DBA

Department: Technology & Product

Location: Dundalk, Co. Louth

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours weekly (Mon - Fri - 09:00 - 17:30)

Job Overview:

The Senior Database Administrator will build, manage, and support Prometric’s global and growing database environment of SQL Server, Oracle, big data, non-SQL and cloud-based database servers, providing solutions that maximize system availability, efficiency, stability, data integrity, recoverability, and maintainability. The senior-level DBA will be required to mentor junior team members, stay abreast of current developments in the DBMS industry, and to lead projects as necessary to support Prometric’s dynamic suite of applications and testing services across the globe.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing support and administration of all (predominantly SQL Server) database servers, including installation, configuration, upgrades, data migrations, maintenance plans, deployments, performance tuning, backups, and recovery.
  • Work closely with operational and other teams to proactively and promptly implement solutions with 24x7 on-call availability as needed.
  • Participate in database design decisions and provide expertise to development teams and junior-to-mid level DBAs.
  • Review and deploy approved database code releases to QC and production environments, following company standard processes and effectively communicating constraints, issues, and timelines.
  • Ensure database environment is secure, healthy, reliably backed up, and ready for all contingencies.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database clusters using a variety of open source and proprietary toolsets.
  • Manage user and group access to various database resources.
  • Provide data capacity and node forecasting and planning.
  • Perform operating system, service-level, and application updates, patches etc.
  • Implement and maintain ETL processes.
  • Administer system-wide monitoring and alerts.
  • Evaluate and propose new tools and technologies to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Follow best practices with security compliance levels and document configuration and procedures.
  • Actively plan and manage projects involving new database systems and enhancements.
  • Provide guidance on non-SQL database solutions.
  • Enhance Prometric’s cloud-based database servers by providing additional experience and recommendations

Essential Criteria:

  • 4-year degree in computer science-related field required or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years Microsoft SQL Server enterprise-scale database administration experience.
  • 1+ year Oracle database administration preferred.
  • Experience installing, configuring, monitoring, and administering both OLTP and OLAP databases systems.
  • Proficiency with Windows Server and PowerShell scripting skills.
  • Strong understanding of best practices and standards for database design and implementation.
  • Experience with and understanding of various high availability and disaster recovery requirements and solutions.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude while working with high demands and short deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex problems, plan and prioritize workloads in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with global, cross-functional teams to implement solutions.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency with Azure, Linux, and network troubleshooting preferred.
  • Hadoop (or other big data) experience and/or training is a plus.
  • CouchDB experience is a plus
