Senior Psychologist

  • 0.5WTE (17.5 hours)
  • Indefinite duration contract
  • Based in Harold’s Cross (Palliative Care Service)
  • H.S.E. funded

The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to further develop the specialist area of Palliative Psychology across inpatient and community / outpatient settings.

The Senior Psychologist will be a member of various multi-disciplinary teams, working with the Psychology Team to ensure co-ordinated and comprehensive service delivery to Palliative Care patients. Psychology service provision includes assessment, formulation, intervention, consultation, research, education and support, from a multi-theoretical base and across all relevant domains and difficulties pertaining to Palliative Care.

The Senior Psychologist will also contribute significantly to Psychology service planning, development, evaluation and quality initiatives in line with OLH&CS values, plans and strategic objectives, and within established professional standards, guidelines and policy. There may also be opportunities to further develop professional knowledge and skills and undertake clinical work as part of the broader Psychology service (e.g., in the areas of employee wellbeing, rehabilitation and neuropsychology).

Essential Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Hold a recognised University degree or diploma obtained with first or second class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject.
  • Have a recognised post graduate qualification in Clinical / Counselling Psychology.
  • All candidates must meet the graduate membership requirements of the Psychological Society of Ireland.

Experience:

  • Have at least five years satisfactory postgraduate experience in Psychology, inclusive of any time spent in pursuing a course leading to the postgraduate qualification.
  • Qualifications obtained outside the Republic of Ireland must be validated by the Department of Health and Children.
  • Each candidate must possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

Other:

  • Clean Driving Licence and access to own car

Desirable Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Have additional psychotherapeutic/ mindfulness training at a recognised training institute

Experience:

  • Experience with palliative or end of life patients in a hospital or hospice setting.
  • Experience in assisting service development.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience of providing staff / trainee grade supervision.
  • Experience in delivering staff support initiatives.
  • Experience developing, managing and completing research.
  • Experience developing and delivering third level education.
