35 hour working week

The successful candidate will be based on site in a Special School in the Mayfield area (Cork City) – St Killian’s Special School.

St Killian’s provides a co-educational, interdisciplinary educational service to children who are diagnosed with a Specific Learning Difficulty, Dyspraxia, Speech and Language Difficulties, and Autism.

Horizons is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Senior Grade Occupational Therapist in paediatric services. The successful applicant will work in a Special School in Mayfield, as a member of a Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT).

This post will provide opportunities for the successful candidate to:

  • Develop their clinical knowledge of a wide range of disabilities and neurodivergent presentations from both a theoretical and practical perspective
  • Experience collaborative working across health and education, including development of resources, delivery of training and provision of individual and small group interventions.
  • Prescribe appropriate supportive equipment for the school environment.
  • Collaborate with the child’s wider support system, including their family and base CDNT, to support children with their school-based goals.

Applicants must possess the following:

  • A Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent professional qualification and at least three years post qualification experience
  • Candidates must be registered with CORU at time of application
  • Understanding of the needs of children who are neurodiverse and/or present with intellectual disability
  • Understanding of Family Centred Practice
  • Experience of supporting occupational participation with individuals
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment/team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • A full driving license and own transport

Experience of working with children with disabilities for a minimum of 1 year is essential.
