Role Overview
Lagan MEICA is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Belfast (although base location can be flexible). You will be responsible for delivering mechanical design elements for contracts and tenders in water and wastewater projects as well as getting involved in the project delivery of these works. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant experience in a Mechanical, Electrical, Control & Automation (MEICA) environment. You will be required to integrate into our existing MEICA team and may occasionally travel within the UK. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects like our Hydrogen and Oxygen Demonstrator project, gaining valuable experience in this emerging field.

What you'll do
The following reflect the main tasks associated with your position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive:
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and CDM regulations, particularly in design and installation, adhering to all relevant legislation.
  • Contribute to the production of comprehensive and clear client/contractor tenders.
  • Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Write up specifications for orders and subcontracts.
  • Place orders using the COINS system.
  • Ensure mechanical designs are developed with health and safety considerations for the construction phase.
  • Provide guidance to the construction team on mechanical design-related issues.
  • Coordinate with the Project Principal and construction team to manage resources and track project performance.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineers and CAD Technicians to ensure smooth project delivery.

What you'll bring
Essential:
  • Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer within multidisciplinary projects, preferably within the water/wastewater industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation.
  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Experience with the commercial management of M&E works.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with cross-functional site teams.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites across the UK and Ireland.
  • A valid driver’s license.
Desirable:
  • A third-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience working in MEICA engineering teams.
  • CSR/CSCS qualification.
  • SSSTS/SMSTS qualification.
  • First Aid Training.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies or institutes.
  • Proficiency in CAD design, detailing, or equivalent software.
  • Knowledge of Business Information Modelling (BIM) and its applications.
