PERMANENT FULL TIME CONTRACT

Essential
- At least 4 years experience of working with people with intellectual disabilities and dual diagnosis
- Level 8 (Higher Degree) qualification in Teaching, Training and Development, Applied Social Studies/Social Care, Psychology or other relevant qualification.
(A Level 7 degree will be considered from applicants who have a minimum of 4 years relevant experience in the intellectual disability sector)
- Working knowledge of New Directions Framework (HSE)
- Experience in leading a team of staff in the development and implementation of person centred planning framework
- Experience of working with individuals with Autism and supporting the delivery of service to people who may display behaviours of concern
- Experience in risk management
- Experience in liaising with MDT teams, families and external agencies who may be involved in the support of people attending the services
- Supervisory ability and capability in the management of staff and people supported by the services.
- Ability to assist in service planning
- Full Clean Drivers Licence
- Knowledge of HIQA Standards and Regulations

All new entrants to the Public Service will start at the first point of the above salary scale.
Person Specification:
The applicant shall possess:
- A third level qualification in Teaching, Training and Development or other relevant qualification.
- Experience of working with people with intellectual disabilities.
- Experience of working with people with Autism.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills and be highly responsible and reliable.
- Supervisory ability and capability in the management of staff and people supported by the services.
- Initiative and good organisational ability.
- A proactive involvement in sourcing activities for the services.
- A full and clean manual driving licence.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The post holder will supervise a team of staff and will participate in the development and implementation of appropriate programmes suitable to the individual needs and abilities of people supported by the services.
The prime consideration at all times must be for the welfare and well being of people supported by the services. This position requires a high degree of professionalism.
You must have the ability to work with people who have a learning disability and must believe
that that person has the right to live and participate in the community equally with other people.
You will have the ability to lead and supervise a team, be flexible and have the willingness to attend training and develop new skills, as required.
You will be required to act in an “on call” capacity for set periods each month and deal with management/service issues that arise during these periods.
Confidentiality in matters related to people supported by the services and staff is imperative.
The position requires competence in conflict resolution and the ability to understand and empower people with sometimes quite divergent points of view.
Job Description:
The Post holder will:
- Ensure that the ethos and philosophy of the Brother of Charity Services Ireland, Limerick Region, are adhered to in the course of service delivery
- Comply with the guidelines, policies and procedures of the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, Limerick Region.
- Be aware that all matters relating to the Services are confidential and respect of the confidential nature of all information conveyed either verbally or in writing during the course of work is expected in accordance with the organisation’s policy on confidentiality.
- Commit to a team approach in the working environment.
- Provide supervision, instruction and guidance to staff and people supported by the services and facilitate participation in all programmes.
- Be vigilant and ensure supervision of people supported by the services placed in your care.
- Ensure the development, implementation, review and evaluation of individual programmes for people supported by the services, depending on the individual needs and wishes.
- Identify, develop and participate in community based activities with people supported by the services.
- Take responsibility for ordering appropriate material for programme delivery
- Maintain a professional and respectful attitude in all dealings with people supported by the services, co-workers, parents and all those encountered in the course of work.
- In conjunction with the Area Manager, liaise with parents, advocates, and multi disciplinary team as appropriate.
- Attend and participate in client review meetings and other such meetings as requested.
- Maintain service user’s files, records and oversee the appropriate completion of all reports including incident/accident reports.
- Keep manager fully informed of all developments and correspondence.
- Assist in the development of financial budgets as may be required.
- Ensure you are fully informed and work within the standards and requirements as laid out in the 1989 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act.
- Administer medication in accordance with the Drug Policy.
- Ensure all fire, health and safety regulations are adhered to.
- Liaise with outside agencies as appropriate.
- Carry out driving duties as required.
- Attend training when required.
- Be available in an “on call” capacity for set periods each month as assigned by the respective area manager.
- You must hold a Full Clean Driving Licence as you are required to be willing and able to drive a vehicle with up to 8 passenger seats and up to 3,500kg.
- Perform other such duties appropriate to the appointment as may be assigned form time to time
You are required to establish and maintain relationships with the individuals who use our services that are based on respect and equality and that promote
their independence.
- As the duties and responsibilities of any post in the Service are likely to change with the ongoing needs of the people supported by the services, such as age and level of ability, staff are expected to have a high level of flexibility, willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to their work as the client needs and choices demand.
