Senior Dietitian In Low Back Pain

Mater HospitalDublinPart-time

Job Purpose:

This role has been created as a component of delivery of the integrated Low Back Pain Pathway. The integrated Low Back Pain (LBP) pathway is one of a number of modernised care pathways developed by the HSE. This pathway aims to identify patients who present with low back pain that need relevant and timely interventions in the most appropriate setting i.e. nearest to home. The pathway enables GPs to utilise a specialty specific referral form, and a stratified care approach, thus placing patients on the correct treatment pathway, depending on their specific needs and clinical presentation. The pathway, developed collaboratively by the NCP Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and the NCP for Rheumatology, will deliver a standardised approach to the management of patients presenting with low back pain. Care will be delivered by a range of health and social care professionals, with timely access to orthopaedic/rheumatology OPD clinics for further consultation and management where required. It is envisaged that the conversion rate for an orthopaedic/rheumatology OPD consultation will be ~ 15 -20% from this integrated LBP pathway. Targets have been established for each pathway and KPIs will be measured, with strong expectation that these targets are achieved. The initial purpose of the post will be to develop community dietetic services as part of the national initiative for patients with low back pain. The service maybe delivered on the Mater site, associated sites or /and in HSE community and primary care sites. This will include work with patients who are face to face individual consultations, in groups and using telehealth working The senior dietitian will work collaboratively with their physiotherapists, and administration staff in the Low back pain team to facilitate the implementation of the integrated LBP pathway in conjunction with the dietitian manager and orthopaedic clinical lead. This service is being launched at the Mater Hospital and Waterford regional university Hospital, and the post holder will liaise with their colleagues in Waterford, as the service will be evaluated in order to plan for future provision and development
