Scribe/Reader/Invigilator

Job Overview: The Scribe/Reader/invigilator provides examination support to students with a disability as approved through individual needs assessment. For example a student may require a person to read the examination paper, to scribe examination answers or to supervise/invigilate an examination in an individual separate centre.

Key Responsibilities/ Duties: Reader • Read on request to the student all or part of the examination paper or any part of the students answers. • Read accurately and at a reasonable rate. Scribe • Write on request part or all of a student’s answers as dictated by the student in the examination. • Maintain good communication with the student in relation to the scribing process. • Writing speed and legibility must be of a high standard. • A scribe must have good spelling. Invigilator • The Invigilator must uphold the integrity of the examination processes to ensure that all examinations regulations and procedures are upheld. Academic Qualifications Irish leaving certificate or equivalent. English as first Language Professional Qualifications Not applicable to this role Specific knowledge and skills • Good written and verbal communication skills in English or Irish or Spanish or French. • Knowledge of the role of Scribe/Reader/Invigilator. • Clear and legible hand writing. Specific Personal Qualities • Confidence to enforce the University exam regulations. • Ability to deal effectively and promptly with any problems that arise during examinations. • Recognition of the importance of the security of examination materials • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Other Must be available for • End of semester 1 officially timetabled examinations. • End of semester 2 officially timetabled examinations. • Autumn repeat examinations Salary: Scribes €18 euro per hour. Readers & Invigilators €15.96 per hour
