The National Gallery of Ireland (‘the Gallery’) is Ireland’s major national cultural institution devoted to the collection and care of fine art. Comprising almost 17,000 paintings, drawings, watercolours, miniatures, prints, sculpture and decorative arts, the institution's extensive holdings include masterpieces by many of the most celebrated figures in the history of western European art. In addition, the Gallery houses the most representative collection of historic Irish art. Funded mainly by the State, the Gallery employs more than 180 staff and provides free access to the public 361 days a year. In 2022, the Gallery received numerous awards and accreditations. These included the Triple Lock Standard, which recognises Irish charities that have achieved excellence in governance, financial reporting, transparency and ethical fundraising.

The Gallery is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Recruitment Executive Apprentice to join our HR team on a three-year apprenticeship programme. This apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start their career in recruitment within a prestigious cultural institution. Reporting to the Senior HR Business Partner, you will assist with various recruitment activities, ensuring we attract and retain top talent for the Gallery.

Key Responsibilities:

Sourcing and Talent Identification:

Use job boards, social media, networking events, and referrals to find potential candidates.

Proactively source and identify suitable candidates.

Candidate Screening:

Conduct thorough resume reviews and phone screenings to assess qualifications and cultural fit.

Collaborate with hiring managers to ensure alignment on candidate criteria and assessment methodologies.

Interview Coordination:

Schedule and coordinate interviews between candidates and hiring managers.

Actively participate in candidate assessments and contribute to the selection process.

Employer Branding:

Promote our employer brand through engaging job descriptions and a compelling social media presence.

Leverage platforms like LinkedIn to showcase our company culture, values, and career opportunities.

Craft captivating job postings and company profiles that highlight our unique selling points.

Plan, co-ordinate and represent the Gallery at Job fairs and recruitment events.

Candidate Relationship Management:

Build and maintain strong relationships with candidates throughout the recruitment process.

Provide timely communication, guidance, and post-interview feedback.

Ensure the onboarding process for successful candidates is completed.

Collaboration with Hiring Managers:

Partner closely with hiring managers to understand their staffing needs.

Provide insights on market trends and recommend effective recruitment strategies.

Compliance and Diversity:

Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.

Promote diversity and inclusion in our hiring practices.

Apprenticeship Programme Details:

The Recruitment Executive Apprenticeship is a structured, three-year program combining practical work experience with academic study. Delivered in partnership with the Employment and Recruitment Federation (ERF), this apprenticeship leads to a BA (Honours) in Recruitment Practice, an NFQ Level 8 qualification. This programme seeks to provide the appropriate education and training to allow successful graduates be registered with SOLAS as a Recruitment Executive apprentice.

Course Overview:

BA (Honours) in Recruitment Practice

Duration: 3 years

NFQ Level: Level 8

The new BA (Honours) in Recruitment Practice is a three-year apprenticeship degree created in partnership with the Employment and Recruitment Federation (ERF). This recruitment apprenticeship programme is the first of its kind in Ireland and there are no other Level 8 degree programmes in recruitment or qualifications in recruitment that are on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Year 1: Introduction to Recruitment, ICT Skills, Career Management, Sales & Negotiating Skills, Professional Development, Work-Based Learning

Year 2: Employment Law, Candidate Strategy, Finance, Business Development, Professional Development, Work-Based Learning

Year 3: Management & Behaviour, Equality & Ethics, Contemporary Issues, Talent Planning, Professional Development, Work-Based Learning

Apprenticeship Code of Practice:

The programme is enterprise-led and aims to equip apprentices with the knowledge, skills, and competence to work autonomously in recruitment. Apprentices will alternate between on-the-job training and academic study, ensuring they gain comprehensive practical and theoretical understanding.

Key Obligations:

Attend all scheduled classes and training sessions.

Complete the specified number of training days.

Demonstrate diligence and commitment to all aspects of work, training, and education.

Seek guidance from mentors and instructors as needed.

Comply with the policies and procedures of the National Gallery of Ireland and other training providers.

Entry Requirements:

A grade H5 and above in two higher level subjects together with a minimum of O6/H7 in four other subjects. A minimum of grade O6/H7 must be obtained in English. A grade O6/H7 must be obtained in Mathematics. Holders of a QQI level 5 or Level 6 (or equivalent) can apply for entry onto the programme.

Learners for whom English is not a first language must demonstrate proficiency in English with CEF B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) or recognised equivalent.

Current employees with relevant experience and qualifications (e.g. ERF Programme in Recruitment Practice).

Applications from candidates who are not current employees or do not have the academic requirements outlined above may apply using an application for Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPL).

Aged 18 or over.

The post will be subject to a satisfactory medical check and successful completion of a successful probationary period. Applicants must be eligible to work in Ireland.

Citizenship Requirements

Eligible candidates must be:

(a) A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; or

(b) A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or

(c) A citizen of Switzerland pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or

(d) A non-EEA citizen who has a stamp 41 or a Stamp 5 visa;

1 Please note that a 50 TEU visa, which is a replacement for Stamp 4EUFAM after Brexit, is acceptable as a Stamp 4 equivalent.

Grade & Salary: Salary is in accordance with the Clerical Officer (PPC) salary scale 1st Point currently €29,195.92 (gross) per annum.

Duration: 3 Years Fixed Term Contract

Apprenticeship Structure:

For 20 weeks each year, apprentices will attend a 'College Day' once a week, typically on Thursdays, either online or in person at the National College of Ireland.

During these 20 weeks, apprentices will work four days a week with the employer.

For the remaining weeks of the year, apprentices will work full-time with the employer, gaining hands-on experience and practical skills in recruitment. Full-time hours are 5 days a week - 35 hours per week (net of breaks).
