Teagascóir Táthú BuanGalway & Roscommon Education & Training Board (GRETB) invites applications from suitably qualified individuals wishing to be considered for the following position:

Job Title: Welding Instructor

Capacity: Permanent

Reporting To: Assistant Manager

Section: GRETB Training Centre

Function of Job: To deliver professional training for all aspects of welding from basic to intermediate to advanced, in line with the prescribed EN and BS standards and in accordance with the relevant syllabus. Also to deliver welding instruction to metal fabrication and plumbing apprenticeship classes

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Instruct participants in Basic, intermediate and Advanced Welding – MMA, Oxy-Acetylene, MIG, TIG to certified standards as required to industry;
  • Prepare lesson plans, course notes, presentational material and handouts as appropriate;
  • Schedule, conduct, correct and mark assessment/tests in accordance with the relevant assessment programmes and carry out associated administrative tasks;
  • Provide appropriate additional instruction and schedule, conduct, correct and mark repeat assessments in accordance with the prescribed referral procedure;
  • Maintain prescribed course records;
  • Supervise participants and ensure that correct methods, quality standards and safety procedures are observed;
  • Supervise participants in respect of their timekeeping, attendance, behaviour and general application of the participants to the course;
  • Prepare and issue progress reports to the employer in respect of participant;
  • Ensure adequate security of tools, equipment, machines and materials located in the training area;
  • Ensure that equipment and machines are maintained in accordance with the manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule;
  • Plan and ensure the timely delivery of all course material and non-capital tools and equipment;
  • Raise requests for the purchase and supply of course material and non-capital tools and equipment;
  • Ensure that course materials are used in an economical and cost effective manner;
  • Use new technology as appropriate, to assist in delivering and administering training;
  • Undertake such other duties, including other instructing requests as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Desirable - Good knowledge of GRETB activities, have knowledge of modern training methods

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Specify particular experience/ skills required.

Essential -

  • 5 years post qualification experience in the welding Trade Teaching or Training experience
  • Experienced in MIG, TIG MMA and Oxy acetylene welding process. Pipe and Plate. Oxy acetylene cutting and plasma cutting process.
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation within the industry.
  • Experience of working with new welding machines
  • Supervisory experience

Desirable -

  • Teaching or Training experience
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation within the industry
  • Update on latest Welding techniques

COMMUNICATIONS INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Verbal/presentation skills

  • Essential - Articulate, with the ability to communicate the relevant course information in a manner designed to motivate the learner.
  • Desirable - Having the necessary coping skills to deal with conflict, motivational & disciplinary problems associated with training.

Administrative, record maintenance and assessment skills

  • Essential - Experienced in work related administrative skills (e.g. estimating, ordering materials, quality systems)

Disposition

  • Essential - Excellent organisational, communication (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Desirable - Ability to assess the learner’s progress in training, Ability to assess their effectiveness in passing on skills and knowledge to the learner.

EDUCATION:

General, Technical, Qualifications/ Training

Essential -

  • Leaving Certificate standard
  • Coded Welding qualification or industry qualifications standards

Desirable -

  • Post National Craft Certificate level technical qualification
  • Train the Trainer Qualification or equivalent, national diploma or higher,
  • education and training qualification
  • Qualified to teach maths, science and technical drawing
  • Health and Safety qualification

Conditions of Service

Term of Appointment:

Permanent Post: This post is a whole-time, pensionable and permanent.

A panel may be formed from which future relevant vacancies may be filled. Any such panel formed shall be six months in duration.

Remuneration:

€47,027- €74,147 (including two long service increments).

Starting pay will be dependent on an applicant’s post-qualification experience.

Salary is not subject to negotiation.

Hours of Work:

A 35 hour week is in operation. Hours may be adjusted from time to time under relevant Public Sector Agreements.

Annual Leave:

The Annual Leave entitlement for this post is 25 days per annum.
