 *The specified purpose of this contract is to cover a maternity leave

Location:

 Dublin or Galway

Salary: € 55,142 - € 78,854* per annum 

*This role will be filled in line with Public Pay Policy at Point 1 of the relevant Salary Scale unless the successful candidate is appointed from an existing public sector role

Job Purpose

Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland work in partnership to actively pursue and secure events, that contribute to both the business events industry and the broader tourism ecosystem. As one of the highest yielding tourism segments, business events are aligned with the ambition to drive revenue growth ahead of volume, while supporting 20,000 jobs in the economy. This position of Officer, Commercial Development will play an active role in sustaining and growing this lucrative sector. 

 PURPOSE 

  • To lead, strategically develop and manage the Ireland Conference Ambassador programme, working with senior academic, medical and business leaders to attract conferences to Ireland. 
  • To identify and develop new business opportunities for the destination through the Conference Ambassador network 
  • To deliver on sales targets and KPIs in supporting the sales team with bids.

JOB DESCRIPTION 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • To strategically develop mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholder organisations including state agencies, Universities, venues, professional bodies, business organisations, business networks and internationally active companies based in Ireland. 
  • To research and recruit new Ambassadors who can assist in bidding to bring conferences to Ireland. 
  • To generate and develop new conference sales leads. 
  • Develop a new Ambassador Network focusing on our sector strengths, creating advisory panels as well as establishing and developing strong relationships across Irelands Ambassador network. 
  • To develop and deliver annual marketing, event and engagement plans for the Ambassador programme in partnership with key stakeholders, within allocated budgets and to meet KPIs and targets. 
  • To maintain and develop the Ambassador database and sector focused research. 
  • To research and monitor industry developments, news and investments in Ireland’s key economic sectors and areas of research, clinical and academic excellence including Advanced manufacturing, life & health sciences, food & drink, financial, business & professional related services. 
  • To develop marketing collateral, communications, and digital content to drive focused sales and marketing campaigns. 
  • To develop and deliver a targeted recruit and reward events and engagement programme to support Ambassador recruitment and relationship building. 
  • To deliver senior level presentations to stakeholders, current and potential Ambassadors.
  • To develop, manage and monitor the Ambassador programme budget and service level agreements with funders, partners and stakeholders. 
  • To provide regular reporting on Ambassador programme performance, developments, and lead generation KPIs. 
  • To contribute towards business planning, strategy development and delivery of operational plans and targets for the business unit. 

 Carry out all other duties as required and participate as a full member of the Commercial Development team by supporting different work projects, as required, from time to time.This role requires travel, with attendance at a number of national and regional locations / sites on an annual basis.This role will require working unsocial hours including bank holidays with regular attendance at Dublin-based divisional and client meetings (minimum of two days per week).The flexibility to travel domestically, and on occasion internationally is an element of this role.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA 

The successful candidate will hold a track record in Business Development and have demonstrable experience of managing senior stakeholder relationships. They will possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with strong interpersonal skills.

 In order to be eligible to apply for this role you must have / demonstrate in your application form the following: 

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in Business Development 
  • Experience in managing teams 
  • Own means of transport with full driving licence 

 QUALIFICATIONS/MANDATORY TRAINING 

  • A Professional Qualification (minimum Level 6 under the QQI Framework) in a related discipline is essential.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  •  Knowledge of the tourism landscape in Ireland 
  •  Knowledge of the business events industry
