There is currently one permanent / whole-time vacancy available in the in the Occupational Therapy Department.

The successful candidates may be required to rotate across all medical specialties in order to support the Emergency Department, RAFT Hub, Inpatient Frailty and egress to Community OT services within the enhanced community care networks.

A panel may be created for a Senior Occupational Therapist in Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, from which current and future specified purpose vacancies of full time or part time duration, may be filled.

Purpose of the Post

To work in conjunction with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the Occupational Therapy service to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the Organisation. The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high quality Occupational Therapy service and will carry out clinical and educational duties as required.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a co-ordinated approach to client care across the unscheduled and emergency care services at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore. This may include a requirement to work as part of the Rapid Access Frailty Team in the Hospital with assignments to the Emergency Department/RAFT Hub/AMAU/Rapid Access Clinics as well as inpatient wards, as determined by service need by the OT manager and in line with the National Clinical Programme for Older People (NCPOP).

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must, on the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the post possess:

1.Statutory Registration Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Candidates for appointment must:

(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

And

(ii) Have three years’ full time (or an aggregate of three years) post qualification clinical experience

And

(iii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

And

(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

2.Annual registration

(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

And

(ii) Practioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3.Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

4.Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements

  • Depth and breadth of experience working in an acute Hospital setting with multiple demands and priorities. This will include conducting skilled assessments and treatment of patient’s immediate needs in relation to mobilisation, moving and handling, postural management, pressure care and cognitive/perceptual/sensorimotor needs as well as their long-term needs in terms of activities of daily living and complex discharge planning.
  • Previous experience in developing and providing a quality occupational therapy acute service and working alongside existing staff in a team.
  • Depth and breadth of experience in delivering occupational therapy services as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the acute setting.
  • Experience in planning and organising a complex, busy caseload through the appropriate prioritisation and delegation of referrals.
