Purpose of the Post:

The Clinical Placement Co-Ordinator (CPC) will guide and support pre-registration nursing students and staff in assigned clinical areas to ensure that clinical placements meet the requirements of the education programme with regard to planned experiences and learning outcomes.

The additional remit of the CPC post includes the provision of support to students in all learning environments including those beyond the principal teaching site.

The remit of the post includes:

  • Co-ordination of practice placements to include teaching, competency assessment and monitoring to ensure that Nursing programme requirements are met according to the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • The provision of support to students.
  • Education and support of preceptors in all learning environments.
  • Audit and support of the practice learning environment.
  • Participate in wider practice development initiatives as relevant to the role and service.

Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and / or Experience:

1. Professional Qualifications & Experience, etc.

Candidates must: -

(i) Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered.

AND

(ii) Possess a 3rd Level Qualification at Level 7 (ordinary degree) or higher.

AND

(iii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years must be in a student learning environment.

AND

(iv) Have completed a Teaching and Assessing course.

AND

(v) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

2. Annual Registration

(i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).

AND

(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3. Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

4. Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements:

Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in a nursing student learning environment as relevant to the role.
