About This Role:

Role Purpose

  • Eir Mobile Field Engineer in the Mobile Access Operations Department with responsibility to ensure the BSS and TXN network is maintained and operating efficiently for Mobile Access Network Operations

Expectations From The Role:

Key deliverables

  • Management of the Mobile Access Site Portfolio to ensure efficient network availability SLA’s are maintained

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance of BSS, TXN, DC Power Systems & Environmental equipment

  • Operation & Maintenance of BSS, TXN, DC Power Systems & Environmental equipment.

  • Repair of major base station equipment faults.

  • Repair of major PDH radio equipment faults.

  • Configuration/Installation of IP RAN circuits.

  • Operation & Maintenance of eir HOC fibre sites (RAD NTU).

  • Operational Acceptance of New, Consolidation & Infill sites.

  • Operation & Maintenance support 24/7 on Consolidation & Infill sites.

  • Operational Acceptance of new equipment, nodes, & TXN links. (RAN, NGN Wireless and Tetra TN)

  • Provide site support for rollout activities.

  • Operation & Maintenance of Special Event sites.

  • Commissioning & Integration of base station equipment in support of Mobile Access Implementation Engineers

  • Commissioning of PDH microwave radio equipment.

  • Battery testing on backup power supply systems.

  • Fault finding of power distribution equipment.

  • Operation & Maintenance of Air Conditioning units.

  • Management of third party Service Partners.

  • Testing and fault repair of Antenna Systems.

  • Network Performance testing, drive testing, fault identification and resolution.

  • Support for the Change Management process (CRQ) for planned works by third parties on eir Mobile Network.

  • Liaise with the Customer Care, SMC, RF, BSS & Performance staff to ensure optimum network performance

  • To ensure that the company’s Health & Safety policies are adhered to with regard to Mobile Access Network Operations

Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the provision and support of 24/7 on-call Field Operations resources for the operational support of the Mobile Access Network, (RAN, NGN Wireless and Tetra TN).

  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety obligations with specific regard to the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act

  • Responsible for the continual improvement of the Field Operations processes and systems to ensure services meet or exceed customers ‘ expectations

  • To contribute to the quality of Field Operations output and instigate changes and improvements where required with the Operations Specialist SME resource

  • To continuously review and improve the Mobile Access Network Deployment & Operations Design Guide with specific input to the Field Operations requirements

  • Monitor the BSS/TXN network performance and usage reports. Ensure the quick and accurate analysis and resolution of alarms in line with Network SLA’s

  • Ensure Planned Preventative Maintenance programme is delivered

  • Support the in field analysis of the Mobile Access infrastructure to drive Opex reductions (e.g. DC & AC Power details, Accommodation Equipment, Antennae and Radio Systems Equipment analysis etc)

  • Day to day support of Network activities in line with stakeholders needs (Implementation, Customer Care, and Engineering teams)

  • To assist the procurement department, where required in bid & tendering activities in support of Operational role

  • To develop and maintain good relations with Mobile Access Operations Vendors & 3rd party ASP’s, site providers and local interested groupings and authorities

  • To liaise with Operational Specialist SME contributing to the continual improvement of the Field Operations Process, Tools & Systems.

  • Drive Opex Reduction thru efficient site maintenance program and cost negotiation, demonstrating year on year savings

  • Align with eir Group culture and values to drive the customer ethos, vision, mission and culture of the organisation to ensure successful growth and retention of its customers

Requirements For A Successful Application:

Role Specific Technical Skills

  • Relevant technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience (min. 3 years)

  • Three years experience in the telecommunications industry in an O&M role.

  • Detailed understanding of digital mobile networks.

  • Technical knowledge of GSM/UMTS/LTE Advanced & Fifth-generation Mobile Communications (2G/3G/4G/5G)

  • Technical knowledge of UMTS/HSDPA and in general RAN - Node B & RNC, CN – SGSN, GGSN & IMS, and Universal Gateway (UGW).

  • Detailed knowledge of PDH radio networks equipment and Fibre Network equipment.

  • Basic understanding of signalling systems such as SS7, ISUP and SCCP.

  • An essential requirement for the role is a thorough understanding of Ericsson RBS equipment and Huawei SingleRAN (SRAN).

  • Ericsson TN (2P, 6P & 20P) Marconi High Capacity Mini Link equipment (MDRS 155S) Huawei RTN620/950 RTN910/980, MINI-LINK M21 6600

  • Experience is essential on Power Supply Systems such as Huawei, Eltek & Powerone.

  • Experience on 12v & 48v battery systems

  • Experience is essential on Optical Fibre Installation and testing.

  • Excellent computer and electronic skills.

  • Demonstrated time management, project management and organisational skills.

  • High attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and communication skills.

  • Advanced computer skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a team atmosphere and work interactively across multiple departments.

  • Work different shifts and weekends as required in support of Network requirements

  • As an engineer in the dynamic environment of Telecommunications, it is imperative to have a full understanding of the services offered currently and to stay in touch with new and developing technologies in order to prepare for the potential introduction to eir’s catalogue of services Information exchange is a significant feature of the job with a necessity to clarify information of a more complex nature. There is a requirement for tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.

  • Full Clean Drivers Licence Required.
