UL Hospital Group is hiring Medical Scientist, Staff Grade (Microbiology)

There is currently various permanent, whole-time vacancies available in the Microbiology Laboratory, University Hospital Limerick.

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for University Limerick Hospitals Group (ULHG) from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

The INAB accredited Microbiology Laboratory comprises of the service based at University Hospital Limerick providing a clinical diagnostic service in Clinical Microbiology and the Public Health Laboratory service based in Raheen Business Park providing analysis of food, water and environmental samples. The Laboratory works closely with the regional services based at Ennis, Nenagh and St. John’s Hospitals.

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory provides a quality diagnostic service in the investigation of the causative agents of infectious disease and the provision of antimicrobial susceptibilities to its clients. This incorporates, but is not limited to:

a) General Microbiology including Mycobacteriology

b) Faecal Parasitology

c) Mycology

d) Therapeutic Drug Monitoring for aminoglycosides and glycopeptides

e) Antimicrobial Susceptibility testing based on the EUCAST standards.

The Public Health laboratory is an official food testing laboratory under SI 79 of 2020. It provides testing facilities for food, water and environmental samples taken by state agencies and from the hospital environment.

The Microbiology Laboratory also provides a consultative service in Clinical Microbiology, Infectious Disease and Infection Control.

It provides a venue for the training of Medical Scientists, participation in on-going education and development, introduction of new methods (including molecular) and relevant clinical research leading to the provision of a timely and effective service.
