Medical Laboratory Aide | Specimen Reception & Multidisciplinary

Bon Secours Health System is developing a new 150 bed medical facility in Ballysimon to the east of Limerick City. Building works are nearing completion with a plan to open this new state-of-the-art hospital in 2025. This commitment will see the expansion of surgical specialties currently delivered by Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at Barringtons, plus the addition of cardiology, MAU and other medical services.

We are now inviting applications for the position of Medical Laboratory Aide, Specimen Reception & Multidisciplinary.

Post: Full-time, Permanent position.

Hours of work: To be confirmed at offer stage.

Remuneration: €40,710 - €47,588 per annum. (Commensurate with experience).

Essential Eligibility Criteria:

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent
  • Have a qualification to minimum standard of Quality & Qualifications Ireland Level 5 (or higher) in Laboratory Skills
  • Have previous experience of work in a Hospital Laboratory or Science Laboratory
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Be flexible and capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with advancements in the Laboratory department practices.
  • Be competent, innovative, reliable, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
  • Excellent planning & organizational skills
  • Experience with ISO15189 Laboratory Accreditation and maintaining appropriate records is desirable.

Role Responsibilities of the post include, and are not limited to:

  • Perform routine work to the highest standard, as determined by laboratory management.
  • Ensure that all samples are processed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Be responsible for the quality of work in the laboratory and carry out duties in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or hospital information.
  • Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the hospital
  • Participate in safe and efficient use of reagents and supplies within the laboratory.
  • Receive, sort, prioritise and barcode samples and prepare for analysis.
  • Support the secretarial staff by registering patient details on computer system.
  • Deliver samples to other sections within the Pathology department.
  • Assist in the efficient running of the department, taking telephone messages, collecting stores etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head of Department.
  • Participate as Medical Laboratory Aide in a Multi-disciplinary role within other Departments as required. This will include, Specimen Reception, Biochemistry, Haematology & Microbiology.
  • To perform tasks and duties in a manner that ensures compliance with relevant regulations so that the requirements of International standard ISO 15189 (current version and incorporating AML-BB Minimum Requirements for Blood Bank Compliance with Article 14 (Traceability) and Article 15 (Notification of Serious Adverse Reactions and Events) of EU Directive 2002/98/EC), JCI ACCREDITATION STANDARDS for hospitals and relevant Medical Devices Directives 93/42/EC and 98/79/EC are met.
