JOB GRADE

It is anticipated that the Legal and Business Affairs Co-Ordinator will possess the requisite skills and competencies to be appointed at the Executive Officer Grade level and will be at the First Point level.

REPORTING LINE

The Legal and Business Affairs Co-Ordinator will report directly to the Head of Legal and Business Affairs.

ROLE OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity is now available on our Legal & Business Affairs Team. The role of ‘Legal & Business Affairs Co-Ordinator’ is part of a small team but gives the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the developments funding in Screen Ireland. The role will also include some regulatory duties and the Legal & Business Affairs Co-Ordinator will act as the Freedom of information Officer and the Data Protection Officer.

FUNCTION OVERVIEW

The Legal and Business Affairs function at Screen Ireland is responsible for ensuring legal compliance, managing contract negotiations, and providing strategic legal guidance. The function oversees all aspects of legal documentation, risk management, policy development, and regulatory adherence, while fostering strong internal and external relationships. Additionally, it ensures compliance with data protection and confidentiality requirements. The function plays a pivotal role in shaping policy and strategy, aligning legal practices with industry standards and Screen Ireland's objectives.

POSITION PROFILE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drafting and arranging the execution of funding agreements for development funding awards across various schemes and genres.
  • Preparing documentation for the payment of contracted awards.
  • Tracking the status of Screen Ireland's development funding awards and maintaining general filing for these awards.
  • Collaborating with the Production, Development, and Distribution Team on the status of development awards up to and including delivery.
  • Managing Screen Ireland’s data protection responsibilities, acting as the Data Protection Officer.
  • Managing Screen Ireland’s Freedom of Information responsibilities, acting as the FOI Officer.
  • Supporting effective workflows and processes within the Legal & Business Affairs department.
  • Adhering to Screen Ireland’s policies and procedures.
KEY SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

Key Requirements Essential

  • A relevant degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a comparable role.
  • Relevant certifications or qualifications in data protection (e.g., Certified Information Privacy Professional, CIPP) and Freedom of Information (FOI).
  • Proven experience in legal and business affairs, preferably within the film, television, or media industry.
  • Experience in drafting and managing contracts and legal documentation.
  • Experience in managing large volumes of communication and documentation.
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information and current Data Protection legislation.

Key Skills/Competencies

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and innovative team environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong client focus.

  • Strong understanding of contract law and legal principles relevant to the media industry.

  • Proficiency in managing data protection responsibilities and knowledge of GDPR.
  • Ability to manage Freedom of Information responsibilities effectively.
  • Accuracy in drafting legal documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using legal and office software for documentation and tracking.
  • Understanding of the role of Screen Ireland within the industry.
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES
  • Knowledge of project development and underlying IP rights is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a development funding role.
  • Previous experience in the areas of Freedom of Information and/or GDPR.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism in handling confidential information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to work, with the ability to support effective workflows and processes.
  • Irish language proficiency is desirable.

PARTICULARS OF THE POSITION
  • This position is at the Executive Officer Grade I level and is remunerated at €36,044 per annum. This role will be filled in line with Public Pay Policy at the first point of this Salary Scale unless the successful candidate is appointed from an existing public sector role. 
  • The term is a 12-month fixed term position, covering a career break.
  • Working hours are 35 hours per week.
  • The successful candidate will be required to sign the Screen Ireland Code of Conduct.
  • The role will have a 6-month probation period. 
  • The post will be based in Dublin.
  • Annual leave (excluding bank holidays) of 23 days. 
  • Start Date as soon as possible.

  • A citizen of Switzerland pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or A non-EEA citizen who has a stamp 4 visa1 or a stamp 5 visa.
