Role Overview 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced HSE Director for Europe to lead and develop our HSE strategy across both established and emerging European markets. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in HSE best practices, a proven ability to establish robust safety cultures in new and existing environments, and the leadership skills necessary to manage and guide a diverse team of HSE professionals. This role requires extensive travel across Europe. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s European HSE strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and legal compliance. 

  • Set the standard for "what good looks like" in HSE performance and cultivate a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. 

  • Operational Oversight:

  • Lead and manage a team of HSE Managers and Advisors across Europe, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance management. 

  • Oversee HSE compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to all local, national, and EU regulations. 

  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and site inspections, especially in newly established markets, to identify gaps and implement corrective actions. 

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the key point of contact for HSE matters across European operations, collaborating with internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies. 

  • Promote HSE awareness and ownership at all organizational levels, providing training and resources as needed. 

  • Project Leadership:

  • Lead HSE initiatives during the setup of operations in new European locations, ensuring robust systems and processes are in place from the outset. 

  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying trends, implementing innovations, and leveraging industry best practices. 

  • Reporting and Metrics:

  • Establish and monitor KPIs to track HSE performance and report findings to senior management. 

  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely reporting of incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions. 

Key Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is a plus. 

  • 10+ years of progressive HSE experience, preferably in high-voltage or heavy engineering sectors. 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of European HSE regulations and standards, with experience managing compliance across multiple countries. 

  • Demonstrated ability to establish HSE practices in new regions and operations. 

  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building high-performing, collaborative teams. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels. 

  • Willingness to travel extensively across Europe (up to 70% of the time).
