About us

The Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as the Loreto Sisters, was founded in the middle of the 19th century. The Loreto Sisters are involved in various ministries e.g. teaching, hospital and prison chaplaincy, counselling, spirituality, parish work, adult education and care of the elderly.

The Loreto Convent in Balbriggan is now seeking to recruit a House Manager for their premises.

House Manager - Job Details

Contract: Part Time/Permanent

Start date: beg Jan 2025.

Salary: TBC

Hours of work: 20 hours (Monday to Friday role)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • The House Manager has responsibility for the day-to-day smooth running of the house and will report to the resident Community Leader.
  • Responsible for all administration in the house ensuring all records and files are accurately maintained.
  • Responsible for ensuring confidentiality is upheld relating to all aspects of the Loreto sisters.
  • Responsible for setting standards and ensuring all policies and procedures are in place and adhered to at all times.
  • Responsible for recruitment and management of all team members which includes Housekeeping, Carers, Catering/Cooks and Maintenance Caretaker.
  • Responsible for all staff training, ensuring training is up to date and in line with regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining and keeping up to date with employment matters. Responsible for team development, teamwork and promoting a positive working environment in the home of the sisters.
  • Responsible for all areas of Health and Safety within the house and legislation is strictly adhered to.
  • Responsible for all Safeguarding practices and ensuring they are strictly followed.
  • Responsible for recording all expenditure in collaboration with house Bursar
  • Responsible for upkeep of household accounts including petty cash and invoices.
  • Responsible for household supplies, stock inventory and purchasing are in line set guidelines and accurate records are maintained.
  • Responsible for the management of maintenance both within the house and grounds.
  • Responsible for set up and management of services due in relation to household equipment, Fire alarms, Fire equipment and Health and Safety.

Essential Criteria·

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a managerial role.·
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience in similar setting (supporting the elderly)
