Role: Healthcare Assistant
Location: Grace Park road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9
Hours: 39hrs per week
Contract Type: 1 Maternity Cover, 1 fixed term
About ChildVision:
ChildVision, the National Education Centre for Blind Children, based in Drumcondra, Dublin 9, is a vibrant and inclusive organization dedicated to supporting children who are blind or visually impaired. We are seeking passionate and skilled Healthcare Assistants to join our dedicated team.
Role Summary:
To provide high quality, person-centered care to individuals with disabilities in a variety of settings, including residential care, nursing homes, and community care. This role involves assisting individuals with daily living activities, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being while adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
· Monitoring and reporting o service user’s health
· Maintaining safe surroundings for the service users
· Bathing, showering, and personal hygiene assistance.
· Dressing and undressing of service users
· Meal preparation and assistance with feeding.
· Toileting assistance.
· Mobility assistance in daily activities (including transfers and use of assistive devices).
· Transporting and accompanying service users to and from residential houses, doctors’ visits and therapy sessions
Qualifications:
- Minimum QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support or equivalent.
- Full, clean Irish Driving Licence.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a healthcare setting, specifically within disability services, nursing homes, or community care.
- Proven experience in providing a range of personal care services to individuals with disabilities
Skills & Abilities:
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals with varying communication needs.
- Teamwork: Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including collaboration with other healthcare professionals, family members, and caregivers.
- Care Delivery: Ability to provide compassionate, person-centred care that respects individual needs, preferences, and dignity.
- IT Proficiency: Basic IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), SharePoint, and electronic documentation systems.
- Organizational & Time Management: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple demands, and meet deadlines.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address potential issues proactively and effectively.
Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures within a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of the New Directions Framework for Disability Services (if applicable).
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and data protection principles (e.g., GDPR).
- Awareness of relevant infection control practices.

Schedule:

Probation:
A probationary period of 2 months applies, wherein three probationary meetings will take place to review your performance and suitability for appointment. The probationary period may be extended or terminated for any reason at ChildVision’s discretion.
Annual leave:
Annual leave entitlement is 20 days pro rata plus 2 privilege days
Pension Scheme:
ChildVision operates a contributory pension scheme, which all employees may join.
Garda Clearance/ Police Clearance:
These will be required for all prospective employees who will undertake relevant work or activities relating to children or vulnerable persons. This will include any state outside of Ireland where the candidate has resided for a period of 6 months or more.
Pay:
Healthcare Assistant Salary Scale Range €32,473- €41,488(Pro rata)
Sick Pay:
All periods of sickness exceeding 3 days must be medically certified.
Weekly medical certificates are required thereafter. The Company reserves the right to have you examined by
