As the Head of Product Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical foundation of the organisation, driving innovation, and ensuring products align with both current and future needs.
You will lead the development and implementation of a capability, facilitated through strategic partnerships. This role involves owning the product engineering roadmap in collaboration with the product & architecture team and being accountable for the successful delivery of all development and operations activities for products to enable Primark's business outcomes.

What You’ll Do:
We want you to fell challenged and inspired. Here, you’ll develop your skills across a range of responsibilities:
  • Strategy & Portfolio Delivery: Develop and execute long-term product roadmaps aligned with growth objectives, owning delivery across both modernisation and incremental initiatives.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration & Governance: Work with product management to prioritise initiatives, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Engineering Practice Management: Implement improvements to existing products, optimising processes and methodologies within the engineering organisation.
  • Technology Evaluation & Innovation: Assess emerging technologies and trends, collaborating with teams to identify opportunities for product enhancements and differentiation.
  • Performance Optimisation & Risk Management: Monitor product performance and reliability, implementing best practices while identifying and mitigating risks related to data integrity and security.
  • Culture & Partner Management: Foster a learning culture and develop talent, while managing relationships with external partners and overseeing the integration of third-party solutions.

What You’ll Bring
Here at Primark, we want everyone to feel valued – so please bring your authentic self to work, of course with some other key experience and abilities for this role in particular:
  • Over 10 years in product delivery and operations, with a focus on enterprise-grade platforms, collaborating with product management in retail contexts.
  • Proven track record in modernizing core platforms using headless and microservices architectures to enhance agility and reliability.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, with knowledge of machine learning as a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in driving collaboration between engineering and product management to deliver innovative solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Experience leading diverse teams, fostering trust, and delivering end-to-end solutions on time and within budget, while promoting a culture of change and innovation.
  • Strong understanding of technology forecasting, cost modeling, and DevSecOps principles, with a focus on team-oriented environments and effective change management.
