The Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS) is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of Food Safety, Fire Safety and Health and Safety policies and procedures across all aspects of our business. We do this by working with all our Head Office and Regional Teams in order to develop, promote and maintain a safe working environment for our employees and our customers.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced manager to join our Environmental Health and Safety team. The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring we have the correct controls and processes at store and warehouse level, to ensure the products we sell are safe to consume. We are looking for someone who is a strong communicator and will make an impact on developing our food and safety strategies.
What you'll do
- Drive and promote health and safety and food safety compliance throughout Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland. Providing expert advise in all areas of EHS for regional offices, distribution centres and head office departments.
- Manage a team of EHS Managers ensuring a competent team, providing leadership and development to team members.
- Develop and implement an effective EHS Manage System ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 certification and international requirements.
- Ensure all legally required EHS documents are reviewed regularly and requirements communicated to the business.
- Develop and provide monthly and quarterly reports to management and International.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure EHS is embedded in processes and procedures and considered at all stages of new projects.
- Develop and drive an EHS strategy and ensure effective objectives, targets and KPIs are set and reviewed regularly.
- Drive accident prevention and reduction through an effective incident reporting and investigation process across all areas of the organisation.
- Work closely with the legal and compliance department to ensure incident and claim management and provide support for any complex incidents and claims where required.
- Ensure fire safety procedures and emergency procedures are in place at DHO, stores and distribution centres.
- Ensure HACCP food safety requirements are fully implemented in stores and warehouses to ensure Lidl are fully compliant in accordance with national standards and legislation.
- Monitor food safety and cold chain requirements in store and warehouse to ensure compliance.
- Liaise and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to EHS and food safety.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout Lidl through inspections, behavioural safety initiatives, and effective communication and consultation.
- Develop and review training modules to ensure compliance and employee safety.
- Drive continuous improvement within the EHS department.
- Work closely with the International EHS team and roll out EHS initiatives to the regions where required.
What you'll need
- Proven track record of experience in managing a team, demonstrating excellent communication skills whilst meeting tight deadlines and working well under pressure
- Experience in managing, developing and implementing Safety Management Systems in accordance with ISO 45001 would be an advantage.
- Degree specialising in either Occupational Health and Safety or Food Safety would be an advantage.
- Third level degree is required
- Can demonstrate a keen interest and passion in Health and Safety and Food Safety.
- Full driver’s license is required.
- An effective communication is essential.
