Location: Grace Park road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9

Hours: 39hrs per week

About ChildVision:

ChildVision, the National Education Centre for Blind Children, based in Drumcondra, Dublin 9, is a vibrant and inclusive organization dedicated to supporting children who are blind or visually impaired. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Gardener / Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our dedicated team.

Role Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance Worker will play a crucial role in maintaining the beautiful grounds of the ChildVision campus. This position requires a combination of horticultural expertise, practical skills, and a commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Grounds Maintenance:

· Lawn care: Mowing, edging, trimming, and fertilizing.

· Tree care: Pruning, cutting, and removal as required.

· Shrub and flower bed maintenance: Weeding, mulching, planting, and seasonal displays.

· Leaf removal and other seasonal tasks.

· Operation and maintenance of grounds keeping equipment: Ride-on mowers, strimmer’s, and chainsaws.

· Irrigation system management and maintenance.

· Application of appropriate fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides (following safety guidelines).

· Management and inspection of drainage systems.

General Maintenance:

· Assisting the maintenance team with general repairs and upkeep (e.g., basic plumbing, painting, grass cutting, etc.).

· Ensuring the overall cleanliness and presentation of the campus.

Other Duties:

· Supporting other maintenance activities as assigned.

· Gathering information and reporting on grounds keeping activities.

· Adhering to all safety regulations and best practices.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture.
  • Strong practical skills, including the use of various hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of plant care and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Full driver's license (preferred).
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., in horticulture or landscaping) (advantageous).

Schedule:

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday.

Reporting to:

Maintenance manager

Probation:

A probationary period of 6 months applies, wherein three probationary meetings will take place to review your performance and suitability for appointment. The probationary period may be extended or terminated for any reason at ChildVision’s discretion.

Annual leave:

Annual leave entitlement is 20 days pro rata plus 2 privilege days

Pension Scheme:

ChildVision operates a contributory pension scheme, which all employees may join.

Garda Clearance/ Police Clearance:

These will be required for all prospective employees who will undertake relevant work or activities relating to children or vulnerable persons. This will include any state outside of Ireland where the candidate has resided for a period of 6 months or more.

Pay:

Groundskeeper Salary Scale Range €31,219- €37,369 (Pro rata)

Sick Pay:

All periods of sickness exceeding 3 days must be medically certified.

Weekly medical certificates are required thereafter. The Company reserves the right to have you examined by an occupation healthcare assessor.
