Role Introduction:

Established in 1992, Applegreen is a leading convenience roadside retailer in the Republic of Ireland, the UK and the US in both large-scale Motorway Service Areas and Travel Plazas, as well as smaller petrol stations. The business has grown to over €3BN in annual revenue, operating 600 Motorway Service Plazas and forecourt sites internationally and employing over 16,000 people.

Applegreen is in a rapid growth phase and to support this ambitious growth, we are seeking to onboard a Food and Beverage Inspector who will be responsible for conducting food safety / brand standard audits of our own brand food offers such as the Bakewell and Braeburn Coffee. This role will cover the Midlands / Cork / Kerry and can be a full time or part time position. This role will form part of the Food Team and reports to the Technical Food Manager. It is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to excel. The successful candidate will be a confident people person who can fit into Applegreen seamlessly and adopt a hands-on approach to their role.

Key Responsibilities:

As Applegreen expands, the responsibilities will evolve and change over time. The core responsibilities will centre around the following areas:

  • Responsible for conducting food safety / brand standard audits for own brand food and beverage offers across Ireland in accordance with Legislative requirements and Applegreen brand standards
  • Responsible for planning and managing the audit scheduleTo complete audits within the agreed timeframe and issue reports in a timely manner
  • Keeping up to date with legislation and food safety regulations
  • Keep up to date with brand standard changes / new cycle product launches
  • To report any failed audits or concerns to the Technical Food Manager

The Candidate should have the following:

Qualifications, experience & skills

  • Third Level qualification in a food-related discipline e.g. Food Science, Environmental Health or Agricultural Science or relevent experience
  • Qualified to QQI level 5 in Food Safety Management – (advantageous).
  • Qualified to QQI level 6 in Food Auditing
  • 2 years plus auditing experience within the food industry – (advantageous)
  • High proficiency in all Microsoft Office software also essential (Excel, PPT)

  • Willing to travel ad hoc if required
