Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, the Finance Business Partner will provide financial support and decision making to management team members, providing a full range, comprehensive business focused financial service, analysis and controls that ensure the on-going financial management of capital and operational expenditure. The role will involve working closely with the regional operations and capital management team members to drive and embed project finance rigor, return on investment, and best practice for specific capital and operational projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic advice and execute an effective finance strategy in the assigned area of responsibility through projects across all of Uisce Eireann’s operational and capital costs ensuring alignment to the Uisce Eireann balance score card
  • Challenge communicate, monitor and drive improvements in Uisce Éireann’s financial objectives to the operational and capital management teams including enabling the delivery of cost efficiencies through effective business partnering.
  • Developing deep knowledge of the business area which is being supported.
  • Deliver Operational and Capital spend in line with budget, forecast and plan through effective business partnering, attendance of key meetings and driving efficiency initiatives where possible
  • Deliver a value focus in the business and embedding consistency and rigor in all financial and performance analysis to enable more effective business decision making while ensuring adequate financial controls and compliance
  • As a member of the management team for the area of responsibility, provide financial expertise and attend management team meetings, contributing to the decision making process
  • Facilitating problem solving /process improvement workshops for finance activities
  • Develop a framework and monitoring for the business management teams to deliver on Financial KPIs
  • Work with Finance Operations, Business Services to develop KPIs and interpret actual performance for the management team (operational and capital) and proactively suggest improvements
  • Financial Business Partner to members of the business management team, providing financial expertise to inform and give persuasive direction to influence strategic and operational decision making-through rigorous, fact-based analysis
  • Monitoring the functional business management teams to deliver on Financial KPIs
  • Compile, interpret and review with Financial KPIs, interpret actual performance for the management team and proactively suggest improvements and efficiency opportunities
  • Providing corporate planning, budgeting and forecasting advice and support to the business - supporting the business in daily operations and to plan effectively over the short, medium and long term
  • Supporting the Senior Finance Business Partner in standardising outputs, meeting delivery timelines and driving continuous improvement
  • Provide advice, support and guidance to Senior Finance Business Partner to develop the Business Partnering area into a highly valued team within the Uisce Eireann organisation
  • Work with the operational management teams, asset management teams, Senior Business Partners and specialists and other finance teams, putting together financial models and scenarios for investment opportunities and providing financial advice and analysis to give persuasive direction on decisions being made by the operational teams.
  • Identify and develop areas for change that increases financial control and financial performance and work with relevant parties to ensure controls are put in place
  • Distributing project finance management reports as required
  • Develop, advise and support the drive for consistency in the use of systems for different capital programmes, i.e. Maximo, Primavera
  • Proactively provide financial advice and guidance to the business & lead on assigned efficiency targets. In particular, review all significant business cases for efficiency initiatives in order to validate potential savings
  • Identify and progress to delivery areas of operational and captial cost efficiencies by leveraging the available network of colleagues from Asset Operations, Support Services, Asset Delivery and Asset Management
  • Provide advice and guidance on national efficiency initiatives to ensure the information required is available to report timely and that the efficiencies reported are verified
  • Keeping up to date with best practice
  • Anticipate and proactively identify financial and accounting implications for all processes and transactions
  • Ensuring internal control / policies and procedures are never compromised
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction within the business in relation to the Finance Business Partnering support being provided
  • Escalating risks and issues to the Senior Finance Business Partners as appropriate
  • Other duties as required from time to time

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business
  • Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards
  • Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA; ACMA; ACCA) or equivalent is essential
  • Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation is desirable and or relevant experience 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable 
  • Demonstrated people management experience, with strong people, change management and conflict resolution skills
  •  Experience providing coaching in the development of the technical skills and abilities in others
  • Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional standards and with proven ability to deliver results
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
  • Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements
  • Proactively identifying new areas of improvement and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job
