Decontamination Manager

Full-time (37.5 hours per week) | Permanent |

Candidate Criteria:

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in decontamination science or a related field such as Nursing.
  • Member of the Irish Association of Sterile Services Managers is desirable but not essential.

Experience

  • 5+ years of technical/clinical experience within acute healthcare.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a sterile services area.
  • Expertise in sterilisation of medical instruments, including Ophthalmology, ENT, orthopaedic, cardiac, gynaecology and dental.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Member of Advisory Groups on Decontamination of Endoscopes is desirable but not essential.
  • A working knowledge of JAG Accreditation is desirable but not essential.
  • Advisor on Decontamination projects is desirable but not essential.

The Purpose of This Role:

The Decontamination Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the hospital's decontamination services, encompassing both the CSSD and Endoscopy departments for the Bon Secours Hospital Limerick. The Decontamination Manager is accountable for the work performance and quality of products issued by the Department. And will lead, supervise and train of all decontamination staff on an ongoing basis. The development of programmes for best practice in Decontamination services are key areas of the job.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish systems of work and production, which ensures the quality of product in line with best practices, infection control policies and general safety of the service.
  • Plan, organise and implement the daily flow of work in Decontamination, ensuring the delivery of an effective service by efficient allocation of staffing duties and roster management. Manage work lists, annual leave arrangements and payroll returns. Record and follow up staff time and attendance patterns in line with personnel policies.
  • Initiate and document quality control audits.
  • Communicate with Theatre and other Departments to ensure that any problems/ non-conformances are addressed at the earliest possible time.
  • Keep abreast of developments in current practice relating to the specialist area of Decontamination. and be constantly aware of the need for self-development.
  • Investigate report and take remedial action whenever accidents, near misses or incidents occur.
  • Maintain accurate statistics of activities within the Department to include workload trends.
  • Contribute to cost containment measures and the management of pay and non-pay budgets to ensure that resources are deployed efficiently and effectively and within budget. Communicate proposed changes in Decontamination with their line manager and relevant Department Heads in advance of occurrence.
  • Oversee, in co-operation with Theatre, the decontamination of loan instruments and their decontamination records.
