Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has two vacancies for a Corporate Communications Officer to join our Communications team.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, these are exciting roles which will give the successful candidates exposure to national communication campaigns, and a wide variety of communications activities and functions. Duties will include work across media relations, social media, website, videography, photography, graphic design/branding, event planning, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, and communications administration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Corporate Communications Officer will provide support in the following areas:

Media Relations

  • Draft press releases for national and regional media
  • Issue press releases and manage the media contacts database
  • Coordinate media queries, following up with journalists and helping draft responses to media outlets in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Generate story ideas for media pitching
  • Assist with media monitoring functions
  • Assist with the coordination of media briefings
  • Help prepare IFI spokespersons ahead of interviews

Digital Communications and Content Marketing

  • Create and edit content for corporate websites
  • Create, edit, and curate compelling multimedia content for social media
  • Respond to information requests and information from members of the public via our social media platforms – Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook
  • Compile metrics reports to track and evaluate analytics across all digital channels
  • Work with media buying and advertising contractors on digital campaigns

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Help plan and prepare communications for events, public consultation projects, initiatives, and national campaigns
  • Provide excellent customer service to stakeholders seeking information from, or participation with, IFI
  • Produce up-to-date communications and publicity materials
  • Attend public events at which key IFI stakeholders will be present

Internal Communications

  • Support internal communication efforts by supporting employee communications through a range of channels to ensure ease of access, clarity and consistency
  • Collaborate with IFI colleagues and management in ensuring optimum staff communications
  • Create content for different communications with employees, including newsletters, reports, staff intranet, email communications and briefings

Communication Administration Responsibilities

  • Support the compilation of communications evaluation reports
  • Manage meeting logistics including diary management, meeting records, etc.
  • Undertake all other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned on a day-to-day basis by the Communications Manager or nominee
  • Represent the Communications Manager at meetings or events, if required

Job requirements

KEY EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have the following;

Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years’ demonstrable professional experience in a relevant Communications role - either in the public service or in an agency setting
  • Experience working in or with broadcast/print/online media - nationally or regionally
  • Experience producing content, including video/photo/graphic design/branding, for web and social media use
  • Experience supporting integrated communication campaigns, projects, events and initiatives
  • Experience supporting successful communications with external and internal stakeholders

Desirable

  • Good oral and written Irish language competencies
  • Knowledge of the advertising and media buying space in Ireland
  • An interest in the environment, and awareness of environmental / sustainability issues
  • Experience in the procurement of communications goods and services for public service organisations

KEY SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

The ideal candidate will have the following;

Essential

  • A recognised third-level qualification, at a minimum level of NFQ Level 7, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline such as, but not limited to; Journalism, Communications, Media Production, Marketing, or Public Relations
  • Excellent storytelling skills, generating ideas on how best to help drive public communications via online and offline channels
  • A full Category B driving licence that is valid in Ireland – the successful applicant must be prepared to drive nationally for events and meetings as required
  • Proficiency and experience in using: MS Office, WordPress, Canva, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn
  • Excellent communications and writing skills, with the ability to adapt style and tone to suit different channels, resulting in the creation of engaging, concise, and accessible content
  • Great attention to detail while working under pressure, and an eye for striking design
  • The integrity to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Highly motivated with an interest in forging a career in communications, and participating in continuous professional development

Desirable

  • Proficiency using Drupal CMS
  • Proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud products
  • Understanding of the role of innovation in the Irish public service
  • An influencer who can help build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through good oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • An interest in biodiversity, the outdoors, angling

REMUNERATION

The salary scale for the position is at the level of Executive Officer as applies in Inland Fisheries Ireland, it is a 14-point scale including 2 long service increment (LSI):

Point 1 €34,214; Point 2 €34,994; Point 3 €37,157; Point 4 €39,230; Point 5 €41,089; Point 6 €42,926; Point 7 €44,718; Point 8 €46,473; Point 9 €48,246; Point 10 €49,971; Point 11 €51,763; Point 12 € 52,964; Point 13 (LSI 1) €54,681; Point 14 (LSI 2) €56,408 (IFI Executive Officer Salary Scale as of 01/10/2023).

Candidates should note that salary will not be subject to negotiation and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. New entrants to the public sector will start on point 1 subject to Haddington Road Agreement and subsequent Government Agreements.

TENURE

One post is offered on a permanent contract basis. 

The second post is externally funded by Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH) and Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) and offered on a Specified Purpose Contract, expected to be of a duration of approximately 3 years.
