Meet the team
The Communications function is responsible for publicising and promoting RTÉ content, protecting, enhancing and extending RTÉ’s reputation, and promoting RTÉ’s public value through digital and linear media.We are looking for experienced and qualified candidates for the role of Communications Lead. Three appointments will be made following this competition. Two appointments will be offered on an ongoing basis; one of which will be an Irish Language Communications Lead based in RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta in Casla, Co. Galway. The third appointment will be offered on a 2-year fixed-term basis. Additionally, we will establish a panel from which future vacancies can be filled.Communications Lead in RTÉ Raidió na Gaelachta: We are looking for someone who has excellent written and spoken Irish. This post will be based in RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta's headquarters in Casla, Co. Galway but travel will be required as part of the role from time to time.Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications lead(s) will form part of an experienced and dynamic Communications team executing effective strategic communications plans. Reporting to the Communications Manager, Video and Audio, the Communications Lead’s main responsibilities include:
About the role:
- Positioning, promotion, and publicising of the RTÉ brand, programmes, content and services in line with communications objectives and in collaboration with colleagues in the marketing, creative and social media teams
- The development of specific communications activities for priority programmes including media releases, launch events, photo calls, photo shoots, interviews, EPKs, shot lists, production notes and Q&As
- Weekly sourcing, editing and uploading of information and images into RTÉ online media centre via Wordpress which outlines the full range of programming, including billings, highlights, media releases and images
- Identification and implementation of appropriate strategies and platforms devices to reach target audiences of given programmes across the full range of genres, including factual, entertainment, drama, arts, news & current affairs, young peoples, and sport
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key media contacts
- Liaising and negotiating with key personnel including senior management, production, on-screen presenters and actors, marketing, legal, commercial, and scheduling teams to ensure efficient flow of information and communication within and outside of RTÉ
- Responding to and managing media queries regarding RTÉ content accurately, efficiently and comprehensively
About you:
- Are practitioners of strategic communications and have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Have excellent organisational skills, with an ability to manage a busy and varied workload and a proven ability to analyse and manage urgent media queries
- Have the ability to recognise a good story and how to position it with the media
- Are dynamic, creative and full of ideas
- Have an understanding of all RTÉ services and key audiences while having the knowledge and ability to position its content in the media to optimise results
Nice to have:
- Have excellent interpersonal skills and can demonstrate diplomacy and discretion when managing sensitive material and relationships
- Have a clear knowledge and appreciation of the dual nature of RTÉ as a broadcaster – both the public service responsibility and commercial objectives
- Have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Candidates should indicate if they have a competence to work through Irish
Following this competition, three appointments will be made. Two of these positions will be offered on an ongoing basis, with one specifically within RnaG. The third position will be offered on a 2-year fixed term basis. Additionally, we will establish a panel to fill future vacancies.
The ongoing position/s will be made at the Multimedia Coordinator grade. The salary scale for this grade is from €46,140 to €60,259 gross per annum. The 2-year fixed term position will be made at the Multimedia Coordinator grade. The salary scale for this grade is from €46,140 to €60,259 gross per annum.
