Clinical Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

Overall Purpose of Post

● Coordinate the Speech & Language Therapy care pathway for Head and Neck Cancer patients attending SIVUH.

● The Clinical Specialist SLT provides clinical expertise and leadership to the Head and Neck oncology Team through direct clinical service delivery, guidance and support to the Speech and Language Therapy staff as well as the multidisciplinary team itself,

● To engage in research, education and training to ensure high clinical standards.

● The Clinical Specialist SLT will represent the service nationally and internationally as required.

● Evaluate the services provided to demonstrate their appropriateness and effectiveness

● Develop protocols and standards of care, disseminate and implement these.

● Participate in service planning and expansion of the service.

● Develop and maintain high standards of evidence –based practice for the service

● Act as a consultant to health care professionals both within and outside SIVUH on the management of patients with Head and Neck Cancer.

● Develop structured process for the education of colleagues, undergraduates and other disciplines in this specialist area
