Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist for Complex Spines/Scoliosis and Orthopaedic service.

* This is urgent post and successful candidate must start within 2 months if
offered a role.

*Candidates who don't have the permission to work in Ireland full-time and

Purpose of the Role

The post holder will lead out on the occupational therapy team providing services to the multidisciplinary Complex Spinal/Scoliosis Service and General Orthopaedic Teams across the hospital sites. This involves co-ordinating and supporting the workforce across CHI to meet the needs of the children admitted to hospital for spinal and orthopaedic surgeries, and supporting trauma and review out-patient activity. The post-holder will manage a complex caseload to holistically support children and families addressing in-patient rehabilitation & care needs, equipment prescription to support functional independence and mobility, close liaison with primary care and community disability sectors, facilitation of safe and timely hospital discharge and contribute to MDT management to enhance clinical outcomes post-surgery.

The children attending orthopaedic and complex spinal services frequently have complex presentations and multiple co-morbidities. The post-holder will communicate and co-ordinate care across medical services the children are linked with, to enable smooth management for elective in-patient stays and support hospital discharges. The post-holder will have the opportunity to lead a team of senior and staff grade OTs, providing clinical supervision and support. The post holder will be an integral member of the OneCHI Occupational Therapy department and will support service development to ensure that the OT service is providing excellence and evidence informed best practice.

This is a very exciting time within CHI as the hospitals merge ahead of the New Children’s Hospital. The Clinical Specialist OT will be integral to this process taking the lead on the amalgamation of processes and pathways across the sites to ensure equity of care for the children and families. The Clinical Specialist OT will work closely with the management team to design future services and plan for the migration of services to the NCH site in St James Hospital Campus in 2026.

Essential Criteria:

  • Be registered as an Occupational Therapist with CORU with the registration number listed on the CV OR have applied for and are awaiting CORU registration (details to be documented on application).
  • 5 years satisfactory post qualification experience
  • 3 years recent and satisfactory experience with-in the field of Orthopaedics and/or complex spinal surgeries
  • Experience and evidence of post-graduate training within specialist area
  • A proven record of clinical/academic achievement including development in the specialist area
