Clinical Nurse Manager, University Hospital

The appointed person will be assigned to work within all children’s services at UHK which including the Pediatric ward and the Paediatrics Assessment Unit (PAU).

The Pediatric in-patient service has 29 beds/cots and provides care of children up to the age of 16 years. This is a mixed specialty unit which incorporates inpatient beds / cots, and some ambulatory service to include general medical conditions, oncology. Surgical services are provided for minor surgical day cases and acute surgical emergencies are under the care of the department of surgery. The appointed person will work closely with the Clinical Nurses Manager 1 and 2 and may be required to rotate across children’s services.

University Hospital Kerry is the second largest of the Health Service Executive – South’s seven acute hospitals. With a catchment area of Kerry, North Cork & West Limerick, it services a population of approx. over 180,554. In addition, the Kerry area has quite a large visiting population – Bord Fáilte / Shannon Development estimate there are approximately 2 million tourists visiting this region annually, principally during the summer months.

• Ear nose and Throat Services

• General Medicine including Medicine of the Elderly& Endocrinology.

• General Surgery

• Endoscopy

• Adult Intensive Care

• Gynaecology(including Colposcopy, Menorrhagia, Fertility and Urodynamics)

• Obstetrics

• Oncology

• Orthopaedics

• Paediatrics including Special Care Baby Unit

• Audio logy

• Palliative Care

• Psychiatry

• Radiography, including C.T. Scanning Service

• Renal Dialysis Satellite Unit

Purpose of Post

The post of clinical facilitator has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The main responsibilities are: education, quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.

The purpose of this post is to work within a strong clinical and management structure providing excellence in care, education and encouragement to maximise staff potential, development and success. The post holder will expect staff to share the values of the Department, being excellent, kind, responsible and respectful and to work in a way that reflects these values to ensure the best outcomes for patients.
