Details of Service

To provide a Catering Service at University Hospital Kerry for all Staff, Patients and Visitors at Ward and Department level. The team structure comprises of the Catering Manager, Catering Officers, Catering Supervisors, Chefs and Catering Assistants.

Reporting Relationship

The Catering Assistant will report to Catering Supervisor or Designated Officer

Purpose of the Post

To Support the Catering Department in meeting the food service needs of all Patients/Clients and Staff of University Hospital Kerry.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

·        Maintain a high standard of hygiene in all areas complying at all times with the Food Hygiene Regulations and the HACCP system.

  • Be aware of all Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures and comply accordingly.
  • Assist with the receipt, decanting, storage and issuing of supplies.
  • Maintain a high standard of service to the patients /clients and staff.
  • Prepare service areas and assist during meal service times as required
  • Take and collate food orders from all patients /clients
  • Be familiar with the dietary requirements of all patients /clients
  • Make and serve beverages and snacks as and when required.
  • Operate cash registers and account for cash transactions.
  • Transport food distribution trolleys to and from ward and all other units
  • Distribute food and beverages to all patients /clients and staff

understanding the importance of customer care.

  • Collect trays, delph, cutlery and utensils after meal services.
  • Complete all wash up duties as per duty sheet
  • Clean and sanitize all equipment and sections as assigned following the cleaning procedures set down by the Department.
  • Beware of all the cleaning materials/cleaning programmes and material safety data in place.
  • Undertake as required night duty, day duty and shift duty in all sections.
  • Be able to adapt to all assigned duties within the Catering Department.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications and/or experience

Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed application form for the post:

(i) Possess the relevant QQI Further Education and Training (FET) Level 5 Certificate in Health Service Skills

Or

(ii) FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Health Service Skills or Healthcare Support

Or

(iii) A relevant Healthcare qualification

Or

(iv) Have relevant experience in a Catering Environment in the

Healthcare/Hospitality Sector.

And

Have attained such standard of education as would enable him/her to discharge the duties of the post satisfactorily.

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Ranking/Shortlisting / Interview

A ranking and or short listing exercise may be carried out on the basis of information supplied in your application form. Those successful at the ranking stage of this process (where applied) will be placed on an order of merit and will be called to interview in ‘bands’ depending on the service needs of the organisation.
