CARE ASSISTANT
Permanent Part-Time (35 hours per week)
LOCATION: Doon Services, East LIMERICK
We are creating a panel to fill Relief Care Assistant vacancies in our services.
Relief hours are available to cover staff on leave including holidays, maternity leave etc.
Essential
- A recognised qualification appropriate to the Field of intellectual disability is an advantage. QQI Level 5 or higher is desirable.
- The candidate should have knowledge of person-centred planning.
- A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads
- Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.
- Excellent report writing and organisational skills
- Demonstrate initiative, good interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Display a good working knowledge of HIQA regulations and standards
- To be able to demonstrate flexibility, communication and team working skills together with an enthusiasm for the post.
Desirable
A minimum of one years’ experience of working with individuals with an Intellectual Disability is desirable, full training will be provided

All new entrants to the Public Service will start at the first point of the above salary scale

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
To provide a home-like atmosphere for people supported by the services in a manner which will develop their ability to integrate into community life.To foster, encourage and develop each person supported by the services in self care skills, particularly in relation to personal hygiene, health matters and care of their personal appearance.To foster, encourage and develop participation where appropriate at a social level, for example, in local sports and recreational activities and leisure pursuits within and outside the residential setting.To ensure the religious needs of the people supported by the services are catered for.To ensure that people supported by the services attends at the appropriate programmes at the time(s) stipulated.To requisition goods In accordance with the existing procedures and policies of the organisation and to ensure that due economy and accountability is exercised.To attend to the needs of people supported by the services in each bungalow/ residential setting, this will include household duties.To ensure that people supported by the services private monies are carefully accounted for and that records are kept and reports made as requiredon all matters relating to the custody of monies for and receipt ofmonies from each client.To devise and participate as required in the implementationof Person Centred Plans, Training Programmes and otherplans relevant to people supported by the services.To maintain records and issue reports as required.It is a requirement of the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland thaany matters of concern be reported immediately to your Manager or his/her designate.To be familiar with current developments in the services for people with intellectual disabilities and to attend meetings and to participate in Training Programmes, as required.To participate in the staff appraisal systemTo ensure you are familiar with Health, Safety and Welfare Legislation and with existing fire regulations and to comply with emergency procedures.As the duties and responsibilities of the Unit are likely to change in line with the needs of people supported by the services the staff member must be flexible and willing to change and adapt to new programmes and models of service.To participate and assist with the organisation of Holiday Camps and holiday breaks.To act as a “Key Worker”, where appropriate.CONFIDENTIALITY: It is a requirement to maintain the confidentiality of information concerning the business of the Services in accordance with the Policy on Confidentiality, the Freedom of Information Act and the Data Protection Act.To undertake other duties as may be assigned from time to time by your Manager or Designate.You must hold a Full Clean Manual Driving Licence as you are required to be willing and able to drive a vehicle with up to 8 passenger seats and up to 3,500kg.You are required to establish and maintain relationships with the individuals who use our services that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.Follow us on Facebook and stay up to date with the latest jobs in Limerick!
