Basic Neurophysiologist

Job Purpose:
The basic grade neurophysiologist will work alongside a clinical and administrative team in the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital providing diagnostic testing such as electroencephalography(EEG), nerve conduction studies(NCS) and evoked potentials(EP’s).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform neurophysiological assessments (EEG, nerve conduction studies and evoked potentials) as requested by medical staff and collaboration with colleagues in efficient running of service.
- Participate in patient care i.e. preparation and reassurance of patients.
- Maintenance of equipment required for patient testing.
- Take patient history and interpret request forms.
- Record, measure and monitor selected neurophysiological activities of patients requested by a Clinician.
- Write detailed factual technical interpretation for each procedure performed to be submitted with test data in time for test interpretation.
- Note medication and know it’s possible effects on test being carried out.
- Observe, describe and report any abnormal behaviour occurring during procedures.
- Undertake portable ward based testing when required.
- Mentor other clinical staff within the hospital.
- Adhere to all departmental and hospital wide policies, protocols and procedures.
- Participate in opportunities for continued professional development.
It is a fixed term 12 month contract.
