Assistant Transport Manager
Summary of Job
The overall purpose of this role is support the current Transport Manager in their role, enabling them to have more time to focus on additional duties. The successful candidate will assist in managing fleet operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, optimising transport routes, and supervising drivers and logistics personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assist the Transport Manager in overseeing day-to-day transport operations.
· Answer driver questions and queries as and when required.
· Ensure compliance with transportation laws, regulations, and company policies.
· Coordinate with the Garage on fleet maintenance, servicing, and repairs to minimise downtime.
· Monitor fuel usage, vehicle tracking, and cost control measures.
· Support route planning and scheduling to improve efficiency.
· Supervise drivers and transport staff, ensuring adherence to all safety standards according to company policies and legislation.
· Maintain accurate transport records, including logbooks and reports.
· Liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal departments (working closely with our Business Development Team) for smooth transport operations.
· Handle incident reports and coordinate emergency responses when necessary.
Essential/Desirable Criteria:
· At least 1-2 years previous experience in a similar role.
· Knowledge of transport regulations, fleet management systems, and route optimisation.
· Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.
· Excellent organisational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, also have strong problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
· Excellent IT Skills.
· Highly competent in the creating and maintaining of excel spreadsheets.
· Highly motivated, can work independently and use own initiative to complete tasks.
· Excellent communication skills & can build and maintain effective relationships with customers and colleagues.
