Graveyard Caretakers and Embalmer opportunities with Ireland’s Death Care Academy
Right now, there's Graveyard Caretaker opportunities going in Kildare, Carlow & Limerick or how about training as an Embalmer with Ireland's Death Care Academy in Sligo? Honestly, we're not messing, the Academy runs professional training courses in the art and science of preserving human remains. According to Wikipedia, embalming originates back to ancient Egypt where specialised priests were in charge of removing and preserving a person's organs and organising mummification after death. For more information on Embalming Courses - check out The Irish College of Funeral Directing and Embalming (ICFDE)
Other courses run by the Death Care Academy include an Advanced Certificate in Mortuary Cosmetology. Yes, you got it…a beautician for deceased people, where you help to recreate the 'normal' image of the person who has passed away, sometimes in tragic circumstances. Taking care of their hair, make up, presentation of hands and nails etc., so that the deceased looks nice on their final journey out of this World.
I'll tell you another thing, I once had a hairdresser who kept a little notebook of advanced bookings for her aged clients for hair appointments after they died. Obviously, she didn't know when these appointments would happen but she had an arrangement with her loyal clients that if anything happened to them the family were already instructed to contact her. She would go to the funeral directors with her little hairdresser's bag and work on styling their hair exactly as they liked it every week. While there, she'd also advise on how their make-up should be done, so they looked their best.
If this is a career path you would like to pursue visit the Death Care Academy's website for information on their upcoming training courses. The DCA course is to enable students gain a recognised qualification in embalming and hygienic treatment of the deceased.

Spooky Hotels
Or how about working in a Spooky Hotel? According to Spookyisles.com we have a lot of haunted hotels in Ireland such as; Ballyseede Castle, Tralee who have a ghost called Hilda. Right now, they're recruiting for an experienced Banqueting Waiter, so you could work alongside Hilda, who's reported to have scared guests so much back in March 1998 that they all checked out in the middle of the night with fear!
Other hotels listed on Spookyisles are Glin Castle - Limerick, The Lake Hotel - Killarney, Kinnitty Castle Hotel - Offaly, The Shelbourne Hotel - Dublin and Renvyle House Hotel in rural Galway. I'm sure most of the Ghosts are friendly ones, but it was in Renvyle that Yeats is alleged to have experienced the presence of a teenage ghost, clutching his hands to his throat. But remember, no matter what you do for a living or fun, the most important thing is NOT TO BE AFRAID OF HARD WORK and it's okay to be a little bit scared sometimes as you move up the ladder…being scared means you're about to do something really, really brave!
