Typically January is one of the busiest times of the year for recruitment and it’s pretty logical when you think about it.  As we ring in the New Year candidates are not the only people to make New Year Resolutions, businesses and decision-makers do too! After a pretty hectic month in December, January will see the return to normality for most organisations as new plans, projects and budgets are finalised and we can expect to see new jobs being posted. Safe to say 2018 will also be a busy year for recruitment in Ireland due to rapid economic growth with the European Commission predicting a "robust" environment and GDP pencilled in at 4.8% for 2019.  The CSO have also confirmed that Ireland’s jobless rate is now nearly three points below the eurozone average of 8.9 percent and current trends show it is likely to fall below 6 percent early next year, before reaching full employment at 5.5%.  So 2018 will be a prosperous New Year for Job Seekers. The start of the New Year is also the perfect time for you to think about your career move. It’s a natural transition point to review how you want your future to look going forward, never mind the fact that you could also be feeling the need for a higher salary in 2018 as you dread the thoughts of an impending credit card bill following the Christmas splurge. Employees have time to reflect on their lives in general, particularly their career during the Christmas break. With the extra days off at home, trawling through job adverts and checking out industry and marketplace news kills a bit of time when you need a break away from the in-laws or extended family too. It’s not like your usual days off or holidays when you’re otherwise occupied and as employees move onto pastures new, vacancies open up, backfill takes place and the cycle continues.
