Jobs knocking on Doors!
Do you remember the saying "a job won't come knocking on the door"? Well that could still be true to a certain degree, but they might pop up in news feeds instead or come through job alerts these days, thanks to advances in technology.
I help people find jobs, that's what I do for a living. In 2013, I set up some jobs pages on Facebook, purely on a voluntary basis to share positive news about employment opportunities, courses for job seekers, up skilling opportunities and Government incentives and schemes for people who had been affected during the recession.
At that time, I was lucky enough to be in full time employment as a HR Generalist dealing with Cabin Crew for a major Airline in Ireland. I spent a couple of hours each evening searching for vacancies and useful employment news to share on to my followers. I never envisaged at that time that these Facebook pages could turn into anything else but a place to support jobseekers through their struggle in extremely difficult times. I just wanted to keep spirits up, never wanting people to give up their fight to find employment. After all, I'm a big believer that a job is not just a pay cheque, keeping busy is also so important for the wellbeing of our souls and minds too. There's a whole other side to employment and careers that doesn't involve money. My tag line at that time was "In every job that must be done there is an element of fun" with a picture of Mary Poppins flying to her next job with her magic umbrella. And it's true, work can be fun if you find the right job and have job satisfaction, using your best skills and talents of course!
With improvements in our economic climate, thankfully a lot more jobs came on stream. I was approached by companies asking if they could pay to advertise their vacancies on my pages. The recession had taught us a lot of lessons, one of which was to be shrewder about spend. These companies were not prepared to pay the fees being asked by other job boards such as jobs.ie and irishjobs.ie, who are charging €765 and €1050 respectively for 1 job Ad. Of course, there's lots of options out there that may not cost you as much, like Monster.ie and Indeed.com but employers were being told by new recruits that they found their new job through our pages on social media, not a website so it was a no brainer to find out more. We had discussions and through negotiation we decided that €99 + Vat was an acceptable price point. Word spread and JobAlert.ie was formed from that point onwards. Of course, I had to drop "Poppins" due to copyright infringements but thankfully we've gone from strength to strength since then.
So, we continue to reach jobseekers, not by "knocking on doors" as the saying goes, but through their phones, in their news feeds and these job alerts and job announcements work. Our team not only advertise jobs, we provide a full service which consists of writing job specs, setting up sponsored campaigns for clients' vacancies, designing and producing graphics and providing support to our clients depending on their needs. Candidates apply directly to employers through email or career pages with their CVs or completing application forms - depending on what the client requires. We can link our website with any external system through ATI integration so options are limitless.
We also provide support free of charge to both working and unemployed candidates, so we're helping those wishing to make a move and also people who have found themselves on the dole queue, benefits or welfare for various different reasons. Loss of a job can happen through redundancy, sickness, having to take time out to care for children or aged parents. So, support needs to take different forms to fulfil individual needs. We provide job hunting tips and information about alternative flexible working like part-time options and work from home opportunities. We also help early school leavers and those wishing to pursue Apprenticeships – even when they may face a battle to convince their parents of their choice at times – see our article Are we talking our Kids out of Apprenticeships?
We give advice on CVs & how to land that dream job, dress codes, interview questions, how to get a job without experience, even use of social media and how it can hinder your job search – see our article Disgracebook! – the Power of Social Media when Job Hunting! There's so much to contend with these days when looking for a new job.
Right now, JobAlert.ie has over 200,000 followers nationwide, 2.1m Reach and 380,000+ Monthly users on our website. We reach people in every county in Ireland through targeted pages on social media and we now have London Job pages also - we've designed a model and new technology that can work in any market in the World.
For now, let us help you fill your vacancy in Ireland quickly and with the least amount of spend.
