Hours: 12 hours per week during teaching weeks only, i.e. not including Easter non-teaching weeks from 14th April 2025 to 27th April 2025
Post Duration: Fixed-term contract until 16th May 2025
Reports to: Head of Department
Salary: Technical Officer Salary Scale Hourly:€24.56 - €39.03*
*Candidates should note that as per Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform guidelines, entry will be at the minimum point of the scale and the rate of remuneration will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Different terms and conditions may apply if you are a currently serving civil or public servant.
Responsibilities:
● Provide technical assistance to users of the Metal fabrication / MIG Welding workshop in Sculpture and Expanded Practices in the techniques and processes involved.
● Help students overcome specific technical problems that they encounter
● Induction to and supervision of students in the workshop
● Co-operate with and provide supportive assistance to staff and students in bringing conceptual ideas to fruition
● Support teaching generally and demonstrate as necessary
● Assist in the design and development of practical classes
● Assist in the development of student practical notebooks
● Maintain and, where appropriate, construct equipment.
● Order, store and record appropriate materials stock
● Implement and adhere to all Health & Safety regulations at all times
● Ensure work areas are organised to facilitate efficient and safe functioning of the workshop
● Engage in appropriate administrative duties particularly regarding Health & Safety, store maintenance and purchasing
● Undertake any other such appropriate duties which may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Department
Mandatory Criteria:
● Academic qualification or equivalent relevant experience
● Relevant technical qualification or experience in the industry or a third level educational setting
● Experience in working with Metal fabrication and MIG welding and relevant technology and maintaining an active interest in related developments within the sector
● Capacity and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, and College
● Commitment to CPD and interest in emerging research, technology and techniques
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
● Strong leadership skills
